A Peek into my Week . . .

Outside My Window . . . Still very cold and snowy.  The sun shines during the day, and it feels so good...if you are in the car and it's shining through the window!

Listening to. . . Because I just spent the day with my best friends...my girls!  We will be sending our precious Taylor Jo off to New Zealand next Wednesday, and my heart is so full it's about to burst...at the same time it is breaking into a million pieces,  I will miss her so much.

I'm thankful for . . . Again, children.  We had our last family dinner, when we could all be together.  My kids were sitting around the kitchen table playing, Name that Tune, at least their version of that game.  It almost brought me to tears.  This will be the last time we are all together for the next 2 years.

Singing wasn't enough, so they danced!

Averi wore her, Spoge Bob pants to the party and her boots...on the wrong feet, gotta love that girl!

Lots of fun time with cousins...this never gets old.

Something amazing . . . Today, Bob and I, Amber, Taylor and Averi, met an old friend for lunch.  I haven't been to lunch with Nadine for over 20 years and it was so much fun.  I should have taken a picture, but we were visiting and laughing so hard that I just forgot!  Nadine brought a doll to Averi that she made many, many years ago.  Nadine and her family were our neighbors before we moved to where we live now, 23 years ago.  Right before Amber and James were married, they found out that Nadine's husband, Jay, was James' 2nd cousin...way more to the story, but that's for another day.  Anyway...Nadine wanted Averi to have this doll that she made so long ago.  Needless to say, Averi loved it!  Not only did she love it, she named it.  It's new name is, one two, short for, January 1st.  All of Averi's, "children" are named after days of the week, months or numbers...another story for another day :0)  I just loved the little shoes that Nadine put on this doll, I almost wanted to bring it home and keep it!

In the kitchen . . . I have neglected my poor kitchen,  it seems like I have been running so fast that left-overs are all we've had for the last week.  But, tomorrow I'm making chicken noodle soup, rolls and Stir Crazy Cake (Chuckwagon Cowboy Cake) with ice cream for our scripture study group.  I'll share the cake recipe with you, it's delicious and super easy to make, it's also one of Bob's favorite cakes.

I found the recipe 35 years ago in a Marlboro cookbook, the kind of insert they used to put in the, Parade magazine that came in the newspaper.  We tried it and have loved it all these years.

(This is a  picture of the original insert)

Stir Crazy Cake (Chuckwagon Cowboy Cake)

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
1 teaspoon soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup cooking oil
1 tablespoon vinegar
1/2 tablespoon vanilla
1 cup cold coffee or water
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Put flour, 3/4 cup sugar, cocoa, soda, and salt into an ungreased 9X9X2-inch baking dish. Stir with fork to mix; form 3 wells in flour mixture. Pour oil into one well, vinegar in one and vanilla in one. Pour cold coffee or water over all ingredients and stir with fork until well mixed. Do not beat. Combine remaining sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over batter. Bake in 350 degree oven for 20-25 minutes, or until it tests done.

Serves 9: Cut into 9 equal pieces.... enjoy!

On my calendar . . .
Tomorrow - Bob has a dermatologist appointment to look at some sun damage, fingers crossed that it's all good.  Scripture study tomorrow night.
Thursday - we need to go get our oil changed and take our grandson to lunch.
Friday - meeting one of my daughters and her husband to go to the temple.
Saturday - we are getting ready for Taylor's farewell
Sunday - Taylor's farewell and luncheon.

Just Sayin' . . .

Have a great week!  Be safe! XOXO

Hugs and Love,
Barb

Dear Barb,
You have a lovely family, and I enjoyed seeing the pictures... It's always tough when a loved has to go away, even when we know they are going for a good reason.
The cake recipe looks delicious. I may well need to give it a go. It's hard to go wrong with a good chocolate cake, isn't it?!
I am so glad I finally found your blog after you commented on mine. I will look forward to reading through your past posts too.

God Bless,
Christine

Hello once again Barb,
I am sorry to leave this comment in this area, but couldn't see a place to email you directly. I happened to see your post about the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and wanted to say, my family has deep roots in Utah.
My great-great, Grandmother on my paternal side was Ada Robertson, one of the first midwives, whom Brigham Young sent to Chicago to attend college for Obstetrics. Incidentally, she left Scotland as a young woman and sailed on her own from Liverpool, making her way to the Utah territory.
My great-grandmother Lucy, married into the Norton family, who also were pioneers and missionaries for the Church, so there's some interesting stories there too.
Would love to chat with you about this someday.
Blessings,
Christine

Hi Barb - what a beautiful family week - so many memories. It is wonderful that your daughter is going off to serve a mission - that experiences will enrich the rest of her life! I would like to hear more about your scripture study group. How did you form it? Is it with other people from your ward? Have a wonderful week. I will look forward to peeking into your week again next week!

Such a lovely beautiful post, Barb, the song was so touching , Celine has such a beautiful voice.
I so relate to the emotional roller coaster, been there, we are happy for our children/ grandchildren"s new adventures of spreading their wings, especially when in service for our heavenly Father, but sad for the void we will be experiencing, thankful for new technology Too!
Your family is so precious, sending lots of love, thoughts, and many prayers for all!
I am sorry for taking so long in visiting,it has been quite busy around here, but we are slowly getting there.
Blessings,
Sue

I always love it when you share family photos Barb! What a wonderfully busy and beautiful life you lead! You granddaughter with her new doll is just precious. (So is the doll!) That cake looks just like an old recipe I was given by a friend's mum some 40 0dd years ago now, called Chocolate Wacky Cake. Delicious, for sure! I'm not surprised it is Bob's favourite cake! I hope you are enjoying a beautiful weekend my friend. Love and hugs and Sunday Blessings to you and Bob! xoxo
