Week-end Adventures . . .

On Saturday, my husband took my grandson deer hunting, and my daughter, granddaughter and another grandson tagged along!  Our day started out with this gorgeous sunrise, and it just got more beautiful as we drove . . .

Leaving a beautiful pink glow on the mountains . . .

Nathan was all ready to go, but looking a little like a burglar!  I think he even scared Tanner!  But he was so excited to get going.   Grandpa brought the Razor, and you know how kids love to ride in a Razor... so do grandpa's ;0)  Grandpa let him drive the last 10 miles at the end of the day.

It was a beautiful morning, and we were anxious to see the eclipse, but the clouds just kept rolling in, and we were afraid they would block it from our view.  But we managed to see it!

We soon realized that if we looked through the dark part of the windshield, the part right up at the top, we were able to take pictures of the sun when it blinked through the clouds!  It was still hard to see at times, but without that UV protection and the tinted glass, I don't think we could have gotten any pictures at all.

If you've never been able to witness an eclipse, it's a sight to behold!  It was just beautiful, despite the cloud cover!  It wasn't a total eclipse, but we still had fun watching it and taking photos.

I finally finished my sweater!  Because of the yarn I used this sweater is thick, but it will be really warm on those cold winter nights that are sure to come.

I also finished the drawing for my sister-in-law...

and now I'm working on one for my great-niece.  I'm finding it a bit more challenging because there is a dog in it, and I'm not great at drawing animals.  She's just the sweetest girl, and I'm happy to do this for her.  The picture is one that was taken when she was little, and that's also a challenge... children are hard to draw.

I'm getting ready to go make apple pie filling to put in the freezer for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Here's a picture of my help this afternoon.  I always love to see a man in the kitchen!

This is a good recipe for apple pie, apple crisp, apple cobbler or apple bars... anything apple!

Apple Pie Filling for the Freezer
6 cups of peeled and sliced apples
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
A sprinkle of salt

Toss the spices, flour and sugar with the sliced apples.  Freeze in gallon size freezer bags . . . enjoy!

A quick thank you to all of you who have hung in there with me.  I know I don't post very often, but I'm trying to do better now that it's getting colder and I'm not running quite as much!
Speaking of running, I better run and get this post up before it gets too late!

 Be safe, see you soon!

Hugs and Love,

Barb

Clouds and a Hunting Debacle . . .

Hello friends!  Today is a rainy, cloudy, windy kind of day, just the kind of day to stay inside and watch a movie.  So, that's what I'm doing.  Right now, as I'm typing, I'm watching, When Harry Met Sally...one of my favorite movies, especially at this time of year. ;0)

Friday was a crazy day, fun but crazy.  My husband and I went hunting with my daughter and her family.  We didn't hunt, we just basically went along for the ride.  It was very pretty, even though the colors had faded and most of the leaf's had fallen off the trees.

We decided to drive to a favorite hunting spot, and it was as beautiful as I had remembered it . . .

We waited and waited for my daughter and her husband to meet up with us, and finally decided to go back and look for them, hoping that maybe they had spotted a deer...but when we found them, they were in the middle of the road, and the drive line had fallen off of their truck!!  I wish I had taken a photo of the perplexed looks on the faces of my husband and son-in-law!  It didn't take long, and the two of them had figured out how to get the truck to where we were parked. When we got there, they started pulling every tool they owned from behind the seat, and out from under the seat of the trucks.  I think my husband has as many tools in his truck as he does in the garage!  They went to work, most of the time all I could see were four feet sticking out from under the truck.  I'm not sure why I didn't get any pictures of the - fixing of the truck, but you'll just have to trust me on this one . . . it was a process.  They finally fixed the truck enough to get it to limp home, and then it was time to go hunting!

They saw three deer, two does and a fawn, but with their tag, they could only shoot a buck.  Now you might wonder what I was doing during the time the truck was being fixed and the hunting was taking place?  I was taking photos of the clouds . . .

I don't know if it was the wind, or a storm front moving in or what, but they really had some interesting shapes!  Look closely at each photo, what do you see?   I saw,  Baby Yoda, a duck, and a spooky face in these three pictures.

But in this one, my daughter pointed out to me that it looked like an angel.  And trust me, we needed an angel to watch over us yesterday!  All day long there were rainbows around the clouds, and the sun had a pink glow around it.  This particular cloud was just beautiful!   It just happens that three years ago on October 21st, was the day that my sweet mom passed away, I'd love to think that she was watching over us . . .

On our way home, I took this picture of the storm moving in.   Notice the color in the clouds.  It was an hour or so before sunset when I took this photo, and the dark clouds were pushing out the blue sky.  It was so pretty!  Again, notice the colors along the edges of the clouds, I love catching this weird phenomenon, it's called, cloud irradiation, it's from rain and ice crystals in the clouds.  I've taken many photos of clouds with rainbows, and all of them are just stunning!

I hope that whatever your day was like, you were safe, healthy and cozy on this beautiful autumn day.

Hugs and Love,

Barb

Stuff, stuff and more stuff!

We have certainly had a busy Autumn! It seems like there is always something to do, and not enough time...therefore, my blog suffers!

A few weeks ago, we went deer hunting with my daughter's family.  It was so much fun, and, Christian and Taylor Jo got their deer!  This post may be a bit graphic for some, so you may want to squint, or turn your head when the pictures pop up...;0)

No beautiful trees this trip - although, I think the desert has such charm!  The weather was just beautiful!  Cool nights and wonderful warm days.

I love these mountains - so gorgeous!

Oh my goodness - I love clouds...

and sunsets that take your breath away!

The first day we were there we went for a ride - these guys were so NOT afraid of us, and yes, that is snow!

The first day out,Christian got his deer.  I asked him to smile, and he told me that he probably should not smile after he had just killed one of God's creatures...I was proud of him.  We do need to be humble, respectful and very thankful for these beautiful animals.

While Amber, James and Christian took his deer to the valley, Taylor Jo and I went for a walk - Isn't she beautiful?!

We were camped near a spot where, probably 60 years ago, the town folk used to dump their garbage.  We found some interesting treasures - and some not so good.

Old beer cans... not so good, but interesting.  The sad thing is, I think I can remember these!

lots of broken blue glass...

When Christian got back, he took us to a different spot, where we found lots of old bottles.

I wish this old crock would have been intact!

A couple of old horse shoes...for good luck!

We even found crop circles... ;0)

And a few sunset circles.

The next morning they went out...and look who got her deer!  She shot him at 300 yards!  I think she may have been a little squeamish at first...check out that face!

This was a fun trip, but like Christian, I have a very deep reverence for these beautiful animals.  We don't ever waste the meat, and we are not trophy hunters.  The meat these deer provide will be put in the freezer and will serve us well this winter.

My sweet daughter is having a baby on November 1st, so we are all excited!  I will certainly be posting some cute pictures!

Hugs,

Barb

My Daybook...

Outside My Window . . . It’s been stormy, windy, rainy, and cold for the past week or so. While we desperately need the moisture, it does...
