Outside my window . . . Hello! It's been a long time since my last post...life has been a little crazy ;0) But, hopefully things will slow down a little and I can try to get back to regular blogging and visiting.
This is what was outside my window this morning, 6 inches of new snow. Some of it has melted because of warmer temperatures today, but it's still there, like it or not. It did cover up the ugly winter grass and vole trails. I think the voles have overtaken our lawn over the winter, and that means lots of yard work this spring, if spring ever gets here that is.
This is what I saw one day when I opened my front door. These icicles were probably 4 feet long.
This has been a very emotional month for our family. I think I told you that my grandson has been called on a mission for our church, to the North Adriatic Mission, which takes in, Croatia, Slavonia, and Serbia. We are so happy for him, but at the same time my heart is already missing him. He will be gone for two years. This has been a dream that is finally coming true for Brody.
What I'm thinking . . . We had a farewell dinner for Brody after his farewell at church on Sunday. It was wonderful, so many of his family and friends came to support him and wish him well.
Bob and I with Brody.
In the kitchen . . . Meals have been hard for me, but I'm working on it. The other day a dear friend brought us a big box of elk meat. He and his son got an elk this year, but they are the only ones who like it. Lucky for us, we love it! When I was a girl, most of our meat was wild game and fish, so I grew up eating it. Last night I fried some up, threw in a sliced onion, let is simmer on low for a while, and it was delicious! I'm looking forward to making a roast for dinner one of these first nights, it's always delicious. I'll try to remember to take a photo of it.
My granddaughter texted me last night and wanted the recipe for my banana bread. This is a wonderful recipe that my sister gave me years ago, but it's my go-to recipe for banana bread.
Banana Bread - makes one loaf
1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 beaten eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. soda
1/4 cup sour milk or buttermilk
1 cup mashed banana
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla, beat until fluffy. Add dry ingredients, alternate with milk and banana. Beat well. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
One of my goals in the next few months is to make her a book of some of my favorite recipes, and some of her favorite recipes that I make. A new bride always needs a good cookbook.
Something to leave you with . . . I love it when I can see the sunset in the north, and it's is perfectly pink.
Suddenly the horizon seemed wrapped in a mass of pale pink clouds... a perfect rose without a break or rift. It was as if a pink aurora had flashed out low down in the sky, giving everything around a roseate tinge. ~Emily Read, "Hugh Granger's Wooings," 1874
Be safe . . . XOXO
Hugs and Love,
Barb

Goodness, that's a lot of snow! And look at those icicles!
Congratulations to your Brody...Off on a new adventure. And SO smart to learn another language in so short a time!
We had a motorhome but finally sold it two years ago. We were constantly working and it just sat after a while. We did several big trips in it and had a lot of fun but those days are gone. Too much work now...
Thanks for the cake recipe!! My Larry's favorite!
Enjoy the day!
hugs
Donna
Hi Barb - thank you for your post. : ) Like us, it seems like the topic of conversation is about the snow! I'm not seeing the Spring yet (except for the singing birds). SO looking forward to something besides white! Thankfully those sunsets give us some beautiful color to look at. : ) God bless your day and the rest of the week. Hope you are feeling better and stronger every day. A hug to you, Mary
That is a lot of snow and holy cow the icicles are huge! We had a bit of snow this winter but we've had a ton of rain. I think we're supposed to get 2-4 inches more over the next couple of days. I'm a bit worried about how saturated the ground is here.
That is so amazing what you're grandson is doing. Two years away would be very difficult to handle.
Sunsets and sunrises have been beautiful here as well. They always bring a smile to my face. Take care and have a wonderful week.
Wow! Those icicles - and so much snow! Hopefully spring will come and melt it all away soon.
Not seeing a grandchild for two years would be difficult.
Take good care, Barb.
Ugh...the snow! Good thing it melts quickly once the temps warm up. Course I am always praying for a slow measured melt. No one wants flooding.
You are looking lovely, Barb. Certainly not like a grandmother to all these grown grandchildren. It won't be easy not to see Brody for two years. I would hate it.
How sweet to have the new bride calling for a recipe. It's a nice idea to make up a family cookbook. 🍪 🍰 📕
Hi Barb. It was fun to see a picture of your whole family. You have very handsome grandsons, and beautiful granddaughters! I know how proud you are of Cody. He will be going out to serve with the support and prayers of a wonderful family. So cool that he is already learning the language! We have been having rain here in Salt Lake Valley, but today it is bitter cold out - very unlike March should be. Those trailers look like fun. That was a wonderful gift of elk meat for you! I had a roast made of elk at a friends house it really enjoyed it. It's always good to hear from you and see what is going on in your neck of the woods. See you again soon!
Barb....Loved reading your post. The only part I didn't like was all the snow. I know we definitely need the moisture but I'm so done with it. Someone posted a saying stating: "It's no longer winter, it's harassment!" 🤣 Take care my Idaho friend.
Marsha
That is a lot of snow! We rarely get snow this late in the year and I'm grateful. By now I'm so ready for sunshine and flowers! Great photo of almost all your grand kids. :)
Oh my - but all that snow!! Hope spring will arrive soon for you...and that the melting snow will not be a problem! I know your grandmother's heart must be full to overflowing - not only having all the grands together but also has Brody sets out! I know you are so proud. It will be wonderful to hear all that God has planned for him while he is away!
Hello there Barb, Once again, I am late to comment, as like you I have had a busy month. Congratulations to Brody and May God bless him on his mission trip. I will look forward to hearing a few updates on how he has settled in once he’s in-situ. What a lovely family you have and what a blessing to be proud of!
The snow all looks lovely, but having lived in Minnesota, I do know we are grateful when it gives way to spring, aren’t we?
And like you, I love looking at travel trailers, but am happy with ours. I can’t believe some of the prices, so we will content ourselves with just looking!
I love the look of that banana bread recipe. I never really make it since my husband dislikes bananas. It’s such a shame because they are such a versatile fruit.m
Well my friend, it’s lovely to come back for a visit and I hope to see more of you soon.
God bless,
Christine
God's speed and safe keeping for Brody.
Trailer looks like loads of fun. A lot of us our having Spring Snow!
Wow! Those are huge icicles.
How impressive that your grandson could learn Croatian and Slovenian in just six weeks. His mission trip will be quite an adventure, I'm sure.
Love the sunset picture.
Oh I hope spring comes for you soon! I love banana bread. Travel trailers are so much roomier than they used to be.
Have a great weekend!
God bless you!
Thanks for visiting me at Harvest Lane Cottage,
Laura
