Thursday - Cleaning Day . . .

Cleaning day for the Man on the Moon

Our house is clean enough to be healthy, and dirty enough to be happy.

Thursday is cleaning day for me, I like to do all of my heavier cleaning on that day, because my husband doesn't work on Friday, so I like to get everything done on Thursday, and leave Friday open for other things that we need to get done.

On Thursday, I like to clean my bathrooms, mop the floors, vacuum and dust, clean out the refrigerator, wipe down the kitchen counters and clean out a couple of cupboards. Sounds like a lot of work but not really, time yourself sometime, you'll see it only takes a few minutes to do most tasks. I also like to do any odd cleaning jobs that sometimes get neglected, like wiping down my washer and dryer, wiping off a shelf or two or sweeping cobwebs from the ceiling and finishing up any laundry that is lurking around. It really is true, a woman's work is never done!

I've got my own way of thinking about housework, in fact, I don't look at it as housework at all. It's just part of everyday life for me. I kind of enjoy doing some of the mundane things that a lot of people complain about. It gives me a chance to slow down and just listen . . . to my own thoughts. For me, it's a good way to sort out problems I have in my life.

My favorite cleaner is, Dr. Bronners. I don't like to use anything with harsh chemicals and I like that fact that it is soap, not detergent. I like to make my own cleaning solution, this is my favorite recipe that I use for everything:

In a quart size spray bottle. Mix together:

1 tsp. Dr. Bronner’s liquid soap
1 tsp. Borax (available in laundry section of most stores)
Squeeze or splash of lemon or vinegar (I use about 1/3 cup)
5-10 drops of Tea Tree oil or peppermint oil
enough warm water to fill bottle

Mix it up and use it to clean about anything–counter tops, stove top, bathroom, etc. It costs practically nothing and is environmentally friendly.

I also use vinegar for many things, I put a couple of tablespoons in my rinse water when I do dishes, I clean my cutting board with vinegar and salt, just put enough vinegar on the cutting board to make it good and wet then add about 1/4 c. salt and scrub. Let it sit for a few minutes and clean off with warm water. I use vinegar instead of fabric softener, just put 1/2 cup in the final rinse. I even use it as a hair rinse, makes my hair nice and soft.

You find so many good ideas online, seriously, just Google, homemade cleaners, and you will come up with lots of ideas - it's great!

Well, I guess I better get busy, I have a lot to get done before tomorrow! Have a wonderful day all.

Blessings,

May I thank you for this series of posts. I'm in need of setting up a schedule, to get things done. Instead of just doing them, sort of hit or miss, or as they pop into my mind, etc.

My schedule will probably be different, in certain specifics. But that's not important. HAVING a schedule is THE important part.

Thank you for your encouragement!

I've probably said thank you, for not making us do Word Verification! :-) I'm such a 'nut' about this.

But.... one more thank you can't hurt. Now can it? :-))))
