Outside my window. . . It's cold! With the windchill, the low on Thursday was -21 degrees. On my weather station it said, -14 without the windchill. Right now it's 8 degrees. The week after Christmas it will be in the upper 30's, that will be such a wonderful change.
I'm listening to. . . So beautiful. This is what Christmas is all about . . .
I'm thinking . . . The wedding is only 5 days away, and we are all so excited! Our plan was to have a family party today, but my husband has the flu...poor guy, he's been so sick. We cancelled the party, and we're praying that he will be well for the wedding, and that I won't get the flu...I'm already feeling a yucky ;0( I'm very worried about it, but I also can't change anything, all I can do is take lots of vitamin C and pray! I'll miss having my family all here for Christmas, but I know this is the right thing to do.
Speaking of the wedding, Taylor and Braedon had their bridal photos taken last week, here's a peek. It was snowing and really cold that day, but these two didn't care, they are in love, and love conquers all, even snow and cold!
I'm thankful for . . . I'm so thankful and proud of my grandson, Brody, who has decided to go on a mission to serve the Lord, and the people in the Adriatic North Mission, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This mission takes in five European countries - Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro. We are excited for him and can't wait to watch him grow as he serves the Lord. He doesn't leave until March, so we all have a few months to soak it all in!!
One of my favorite things . . . This year I decided I would use my antique ornaments on my Christmas tree. Some of them I have had since I got married 47 years ago. Some are ornaments that my mother gave me - I remember them when I was a child. Some of them were my step-fathers, I don't remember them but they are beautiful and I love them, especially the little clip-on birds.
I also love this cardboard Nativity. When I was a little girl, our church gave each family one of these cardboard Nativity scenes to display in our homes. A few years ago, the church came out with this new version of that same Nativity. It's not quite the same, but I just love it, and all of the childhood memories I have of the original Nativity. My mother used to put it up under the Christmas tree, it was so pretty.
In the kitchen . . . Cinnamon Biscotti!
My family loves cinnamon biscotti! I make it every year at Christmas, it's always huge hit! I love it with a cup of hot chocolate or a cup of hot Pero, it's so good! This is the recipe I have used for years, it always comes out perfect! https://chocolatechocolateandmore.com/cinnamon-sugar-biscotti/ I hope you make it and enjoy it as much as we do. I've also made several different kinds of candy, that will hopefully last a week or two since we're not having our family Christmas party. I plan on making big plates of candy and delivering them to my kids either on Christmas day or on New Years day, along with their gifts.
A thought to leave you with . . .
“Christmas is a time for remembering the Son of God and renewing our determination to take upon us his name. It is a time to reassess our lives and examine our thoughts, feelings and actions. Let this be a time of remembrance, of gratitude and a time of forgiveness. Let it be a time to ponder the Atonement of Jesus Christ and its meaning for each of us personally. Let it especially be a time of renewal and recommitment to live by the word of God and to obey his commandments. By doing this, we honor him far more than we ever could with lights, gifts or parties.”
Dieter F. Uchtdorf
Have a wonderful few days before Christmas... Remember that you are so loved!!
Oh, how wonderful about his mission!! Prayers will go with him and I wish him every success and happiness. The wedding photos are just so beautiful. When I was young the ultimate nativity scene was in Temple Square and I looked forward to that more than anything in the world. It was the highlight of my Christmas and now that I am so far away I miss it a lot. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Hello, my friend! Your Christmas post is lovely! (Minus the flu part) I pray for healing for your husband and for health for you! Enjoy the wedding of those two beautiful young people! I absolutely love your Christmas tree and the nativity too. Have a blessed and merry Christmas! Stay warm!
I pray you both are healthy for the wedding. What an exciting time! I love your ornaments, I have some just like them! I've had the box in the bottom of my Christmas bin and decided to put them out this year too. I've been very nostalgic this year. Have a very Merry Christmas as we celebrate the birth of the King!
Barb, I'm so sorry about your husband's flu! I pray that all is well for you both by the time the wedding takes place. The photos are beautiful - the snow just adds to the beauty. : ) Love your vintage ornaments. We were given a few from my husband's parents a long time ago and I just love them - they don't make them like that anymore.
God bless you and your family, prayers for good health, a wonderful wedding, and a Merry Christmas!!!!! Mary
Hi Barb! That is such wonderful news about your grandson's mission call. What an interesting place that will be to serve. The wedding pictures are awesome. What an exciting Christmas season this is for your family! Josh just got home tonight, and was surprised at how warm it was here compared to Rexburg. We have been in the 30 today. I think that you have been much colder. I hope that you have a very Merry Christmas and that your husband gets well quickly and that you stay well so that you can enjoy the wedding excitement and all this beautiful season has to offer. See you again soon!
Good Morning! That is awesome what your grandson has decided to do. How proud of him you all must be. The photos are all gorgeous. I hope you both are feeling better soon. So much is going around. I'm so sorry your holiday plans had to be cancelled. Thank you for sharing the Christmas thought. It was a perfect thing to be reminded of on Christmas Eve morning. Stay warm and enjoy the holiday.
If I'm reading this correctly, today is the day of the wedding!! I do hope you are feeling ok and that both you and your husband felt wonderful as your attended the wedding. Goodness but it is cold - but I will admit those wedding photos are gorgeous. The snow just added to the magic!!:) Congratulations to your grandson! I know you are beaming! (for so many reasons!!) Blessings to you this week -
Barb, Thank you for your final 2022 post, where we are able to catch up and see what you’re up to. I’m sorry to hear your hubby is unwell and I pray that not only that he improves but that you remain hail and hearty for the wedding. The photos are simply beautiful, and what a lovely couple. What a wonderful opportunity for Brody to go on this mission to serve the Lord and also to experience life in other countries. I’m sure he must be as excited about it as you are proud! The ornaments and nativity scene are so, so pretty. Even at my age, I feel so much emotion when I look at the scene that depicts Jesus’ birth. I simply HAVE to try the Biscotti recipe! I love cinnamon! And, I also love the message at the bottom of your post. Very appropriate indeed. Wishing you all the very best for 2023. God Bless you, Christine
I loved all your thoughts on this one. The photos are beautiful. I am thrilled that all went well and Bob and You were able to be with us all and not be sick. Taylor Jo and Braedon's wedding photos are beautiful. I love these two so much. I am very excited for Brody; it was fun to talk with Chris, Diana, Brody, and his girlfriend. I loved being with your family. Your treasured decorations were beautiful. My fondest memories of Christmas trees were when we used tinsel to decorate with. The Nativity scene is precious too. Thanks for the recipe; I will try it. You are one of the best cooks I know. Thanks for your closing thoughts. I love this quote by Elder Dieter Uchtdorf. Big hugs for you two!!
