My October Daybook . . .

TODAY . . . It's October 5th 2018

LOOKING OUT MY WINDOW . . . It's just a gorgeous October afternoon.  There's a slight breeze, just enough to keep it cool outside.  The leafs are turning yellow, orange and red...it's my favorite time of year!!

I'M LISTENING TO . . . Because I'm feeling a little sad today . . .

I'M THINKING . . . Today, a friend of mine lost her precious daughter to Spinal Meningitis.  She left behind a beautiful little boy, a sister, and a mom and dad who loved her so much.  I know that she is now with a sister who was lost years ago in a car accident on the night of her Junior Prom...I can only imagine that meeting!  Last month, another dear friend lost her son, who was in his 30's.  He was a wonderful young man and her only child.  He too is with a grandmother and grandfather who loved him so much.  Wonderful reunions, but such sad goodbyes.

My sweet mother is still just barely hanging on, most days she just floats on the fringes of this world and the next.  It's a waiting game for us, as we just take it a day at a time.  I am comforted by my faith, and this quote...

“If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever.”  ~Winnie the Pooh~

I'M THANKFUL FOR . . . I find so much peace in the sunset...I know it's strange, but it's my favorite time of day.  I am so thankful that all of this beauty is just on the other side of my front door!

ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS . . .

Nothing makes me happier than to crawl into bed and snuggle down with a good book.

I'M CREATING . . . I haven't felt very creative, but if I did . . .

This is what I would make.  It's that time of year everyone, and I love these cute little elves.  I have thousands of pinecones in my yard that would be perfect to make these cute little guys.  Here is the website with the instructions -
https://liagriffith.com/felt-and-pine-cone-elves/.  It would be a fun craft to do with my grands...very cute!

I'M LEARNING . . . That life is short, we need to cherish each day we have with those we love.  Never miss a chance to say, "I love you" to the people that are important to you.  Give tight hugs, and make sure they know how special they are.

IN THE KITCHEN . . . My kitchen is so boring!  Tonight we are having chicken, baked winter squash and green beans.  I have a left over baked potato in the fridge, I guess I could put some onion with it and fry it...yum, maybe not such a boring kitchen after all.  I need comfort food.

JUST SAYIN' . . . Trying to remember this.

A PEEK INTO MY WEEK . . . Well maybe not my week, but a picture my daughter sent me from a trip they took to, Jackson Hole last week...just beautiful!

Be safe, sweet friends! XOXO

Hugs and Love,

Barb

Oh Barb how I"ve missed you! Crazy thing is I was in Idaho for two weeks tending to my grandsons while their mother recovered from surgery. I seriously think of you when I'm there and need a way to get a hold of you so the next time I'm there I can meet up with you or something. Sorry to hear about your friends who have lost someone, it really does make you sad and realize how short life is. I'm so grateful for the Plan of Salvation but we still morn for our losses. I'm ready to get back into quilting this cool Fall weather is making me want to stay in and quilt, much like your crafting. Those elves are so adorable, you really should make them then post about it!! You guys really live in a great area. I've never been to Jackson Hole but you are so close to it. I just went for the first time to Yellowstone when I was there. Man what an awesome place. Comfort food sounds good. It's been raining here and I'm craving pizza - I never eat pizza but I kinda want it tonight haha. There's nothing like a good book and snuggling under the covers and reading sounds really nice. Love the quote.
Have a good weekend, Hoping Conference will lift your spirits.
Love Saimi

Oh no wonder you are feeling blue. Who wouldn’t with all this going on. Saying a prayer for each of these cares and concerns and for comfort in the midst of the storm.

Somehow I doubt that your kitchen is ever boring. Your evening meal sounded terrific.

Beautiful skies and what gorgeous views you have outside your home! Every sunset is a promise of a new tomorrow :)
Sorry to hear about your friends loss. Also I am sorry about your mom's failing health. These are hard things to go through in this life.
We are so human! I remember when Pres. Hinckley cried at his sweet wife's funeral and knowing that he also found this mortal probation hard and even exercising faith in eternity, means we miss our loved ones in the meantime.
This is my favorite season as well, and I too love curling up with a good book. Yesterday, we turned on our fireplace and it is happily burning away taking the chill off the house :)
I am so looking forward to General Conference and building my faith, and hearing words of hope and encouragement. Wishing a great Conference weekend for you as well, sweet friend.

Smiles :)

I feel so sad at the loss of these young people. Very sad to lose two daughters; I don’t know how one gets through that one.
You are in my prayers dear freind as you go through the final moments with your dear Mom. I do know how that goes. It is so difficult to lose your Mom. I’m sad for you. I love you much!
I love love your sunset photos. Oh, a see some graphics coming. You are so amazing at catching such beautiful sunsets.
We do need to cherish each day and each other. As I get older, I appreciate this thought more.
I need to snuggle up with a good book; maybe after next weeks activities!
We loved our moments with the kids yeserday and today. We have the best children and grandchildren.

I am so sorry about the losses, Barb, prayers for them and prayers for you and your family as you take care of your Mother.

I love sunsets, they are my favorite time of day, your photos are beautiful, too! I also like to read in bed.
The elves are so cute, I too have a lot of pinecones available.

the quote is so true, thank you for sharing.
Thank you for visiting and for your sweet thoughts about our storm, sad to say we have another lurking in the gulf, praying it will pass us by.
Blessings,

There are so many sad and hard things going on in your life, and in mine too. That Winnie the Pooh is a wise little bear and I like the quote plus those adorable pine cone people.

Hi Barb!
I saw your reply at It's A Beautiful Life and you mentioned, you live in Idaho...so do I. Nampa to be exact. Then I saw your sunsets in this post and they looked like the ones on my post!
Nice to know another Idahoan.

What a lovely post. I'm so sorry for your sorrow and your friend's loss. Oh my! Heart hugs to you both. Waiting and watching is such a hard thing.

Your sunset photos are exquisite.

As soon as I saw that little girl snuggled into her bed with her book and stuffies, I had a flash memory of my own childhood. Doing the same thing. And I agree, that is still one of the nicest things to do. Well, I don't bring my stuffies to bed now (hehe). But the books for sure.

Wishing you grace for the days ahead. Mixed with joy and consolation.
