My Daybook . . .

 FOR TODAY December 5, 2012

Outside my window... It's been such a balmy December for Idaho.  When I got up this morning, at about 7:30, it was 45 degrees!  It rained and was cloudy and gloomy most of the day, but tonight, it's very clear outside.  I was just outside, and the stars are so pretty, what a wonderful gift for tonight!

I'm hearing...  Oh, yes, one of my favorite songs, from one of my favorite Christmas albums that my sweet daughter gave me - thank you Jess!  Enjoy!

I am thinking... I'm thinking about my kids tonight.   My DIL, both of her children,  and two of another daughters children have been so sick this week.  The flu has been really bad in our area, hopefully they will get well really fast!

I am thankful... How thankful I am for good and talented doctors.  This morning, my husband had clear lens replacement surgery in his left eye because of cataracts.  It went really well, and he is home tonight watching his favorite show on TV - with the added bonus of a few halos and blurry spots!  He will have the other eye done next week.  He will be very happy to see better!

In the kitchen...  Not much happening there!  But I will share a treat I'll be making for Christmas . . . :0)

Cinnamon Pretzels

2/3 cup coconut oil (canola or vegetable oil will work too)
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 one pound package small pretzel twists

In a large roasting pan stir together oil, sugar and cinnamon. Add pretzels; toss well to combine. Bake, uncovered, in a 300 degree F oven for 30 minutes, stirring twice. Spread on waxed paper to cool. Store in an airtight container. Makes 12 cups.

I am creating... Just trying to create a peaceful feeling for Christmas . . .

I am going... to finish my Christmas shopping this week.  I'm almost done, just a few little odds and ends to pick up.  My Christmas is very simple this year . . . . ahhhhhhh . . . . what a great feeling!

I am wondering... How my mother will cope with a move.  We are moving her to a different retirement center.  We have not been happy with the place that she's at right now, and we really love the new one . . . . we hope she will love it too.

I am reading... A mystery called, Dead Days of Summer.  It's a fun, easy read by, Carolyn Hart.  I have really enjoyed all of her books.

I am hoping... That we get snow for Christmas!

I am looking forward to... My family Christmas party!  I love having my children here at Christmas time.  They love to spend time with each other, and that makes for a happy grandma!

I am learning... patience.

Around the house... I have a to-do-list, and we all know that I am not good with to-do-lists!  Soooooo, a lot needs to be done around here!

I am pondering... The birth of the Savior.

A favorite quote for today...

"Gifts of time and love are surely the basic ingredients of a truly merry Christmas."
~Peg Bracken~

One of my favorite things... Singing the hymns of Christmas . . .

A few plans for the rest of the week:

Thursday - Follow-up Dr. appointment for hubby
Friday - Help get mother ready to move
Saturday - Christmas breakfast at the church - move mom.
Sunday - Church

Something to share... This is a birthday gift from Amber, my daughter - I just love it!!

Have a wonderful week!

Hugs,

Barb, another Christmas song that I had not heard...thank you! And now I know that you and your hubby are in the middle of Eye Drops World, I'll be thinking of you both and saying a prayer for good eyesight. (My darling needs glasses for reading only. He ordered some lovely new glasses and promptly lost them since they didn't need to be on his face all the time. Now he has a pair of readers that are tied around his neck with a lanyard, which reminds me that I should call and just order him some new glasses.)

Hope that your family recovers quickly from that nasty old bug. Hope that your mother loves her new home...let us know. Thanks for the recipe...I have all the ingredients and it sounds like one that would make the house smell wonderful.

Have a happy day, my friend, even with the eye drop thing going on...

The music is absolutely gorgeous...gonna have to go out and buy that CD! I'm with you, my Christmas is going to be pretty simple this year as well, and I am looking so forward to it! There is always so much to do at Christmas time, but it sure sounds like you have it all together. Hope the move for your mom goes smooth and that she will find happiness at her new home...
blessings to you and your family...

It's very grey here this morning, but hopefully it will clear later. We had some blue sky yesterday. The pretzels sound good. Next week I'm going to start thinking about food for Christmas. My dd makes so many goodies, but I like to come up with a few healthier ones, spiced nuts are a good choice. Have a great day.

It has been very warm here also and I dread when the really cold weather comes. I like being out in my shirt sleeves or just a light jacket. But cold and snow will surely come. The recipe for pretzels sounds yummy. Will have to give it a try. Sorry your family has been down with the flu. It has gone through my kids and their families and they have also been very sick. I've missed not being able to visit with them. Thanks for sharing the beautiful music. I don't think I've heard it before. So glad all went well for your husband. Take care, Nola

My kids hope for a white Christmas every year. It ain't happening ;).

I'm glad your hubby is doing well. My mom had cataract surgery last year, and I don't think she realized how bad it had gotten. She didn't recognize her reading glasses because they looked so different without the yellow haze she'd become accustomed to! It's a blessing to be able to see well again.

A Christmas party with the whole family - what fun! I hope your grandkids are feeling better soon. God bless.

Barb,

Praying for your husband's cataract surgery and for your mom. I hope that she will be happy at her new home.

Those cinnamon pretzels sound delicious and don't look too difficult to make. Thank you for sharing the recipe with us.
