Simple Woman's Daybook...

FOR TODAY - December 21, 2010

Outside my window... Dark, cold, very slippery!  Over the week-end, we got just enough snow and rain to make the roads icy and slick - still hoping for a little snow in the next two days to give us a white Christmas!

I am thinking... How glad I am to have my computer back!  On Friday, we had to take my computer to the computer doctor to have a tune-up, and I just got it back today - so happy to be back on-line, I've missed you!

I am thankful for... Oh boy!  I am thankful for so many things, especially at this time of year.  First and foremost, I am thankful for the Lord and Savior of us all, Jesus Christ.  How grateful I am to be able to celebrate His birth and ponder all the blessings and gifts that I have in my life because of His unconditional love for me.

I am also thankful for the friendship that I have found here, with all of you who read my blog.  With just a click of the mouse, I have found friends who make me laugh, make me cry, pull at my heartstrings,  and always brighten my day...thank you!

From the learning rooms... A lesson I am trying very hard to learn in my life.

"Charity is having patience with someone who has let us down. It is resisting the impulse to become offended easily. It is accepting weaknesses and shortcomings. It is accepting people as they truly are. It is looking beyond physical appearances to attributes that will not dim through time. It is resisting the impulse to categorize others."
~Thomas S. Monson~

From the kitchen... I will be making cookies on Thursday with some of my grandchildren.  They can cut them out and frost them and have fun making a mess in the kitchen!  I am trying hard not to make too many sweets this year, wow, is it ever hard - I love all the yummy treats that are so tempting, like fudge, divinity, peanut brittle, caramel and truffles -
Well . . . I might make just a few things . . . ;-)

Tonight, a nieghbor brought over a little gift bag full of Russian Tea mix- Yummy!

RUSSIAN TEA

2 cups orange flavored drink mix (Tang)
3 oz. pkg. unsweetened lemonade powder
2 cups sugar
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves

Mix together and store in a airtight jar or container.

It had a cute tag attached that said:

"If the weather outside is frightful, stay inside and have something delightful!"   Add  3-4 teaspoons to a cup of very hot water and enjoy!

I am wearing... My flannel nightgown - so comfy and warm!

I am creating... Still nothing - what's wrong with me!!??

I am going... To get my Christmas gifts wrapped and under the tree tomorrow!  Does anyone else put off wrapping gifts?  It's just one of those things I don't like to do.

I am reading... The Lake House - the  sequel to, When the Wind Blows, by James Patterson.  Very good - a little strange, but really good!

I am hoping... That I get time to catch up on all the blogs that I have missed that last few days!

I am hearing... A (((softer))) hum from my computer than I have heard for a  while, Christmas music from my blog. . . and lots of silence.

Around the house... I have lots to do to get ready for Christmas Eve.  My kids are coming over for our traditional pizza - not homemade this year - Papa Murphy's.  I decided that I would rather spend the time with my kids and not fussing in the kitchen.  I need to mop the floors, clean the bathrooms, finish the laundry, and make a few goodies.  Not a huge list, but enough to keep me busy for a day!

One of my favorite things... School programs!  I love to go to my grandchildren's Christmas programs - although they just aren't the same without the traditional christian Christmas songs, like, Silent Night and Away in a Manger.  I think it is such a shame that children can sing about Santa but not Christ.

A few plans for the rest of the week:

Tomorrow - Finish cleaning and maybe make a few goodies.
Thursday - Spend the day with my grandchildren and hopefully go out to dinner with my sis and her husband that night.
Friday - Christmas Eve with the kids.
Saturday - Ho Ho Ho!
Sunday - Church, relax!

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

"Rejoice, that the immortal God is born, so that mortal man may live in eternity."
~John Huss~

Sorry you got slippery conditions. There's time for some real snow though. :-)

Ohhhh, more James Patterson book ideas! We just finished 2 of his books, first ever for us. :-)

I've been "bummed-out" over all the traditional Christmas goodies, which I can not have this year. And then I got on the scale today and weight is still on going-down-side. Then I had the *BRILLIANT* idea!!!

With all the usual goodies, which I can't eat, I will not add the usual Christmas holiday pounds! Wheeeee! So now I've "made some lemonade, from the lemons, which life gave me." :-)))) I'll have snacks I CAN eat, when others are munching on all the *naughty* stuff. And get myself a bottle of "bubbly." And manage, without pouting, and whining, and gnashing-of-teeth. :-)

Gentle Christmas hugs...

I love James Patterson and loved the 'Lake House' I used to listen to books on tape when I was travelling every weekend and sometimes even after five or six hours driving, I didn't want the journey to end because the books were so good!!

My family were here and left yesterday which makes me sad but life has to go on and I know they are not half as sad as I am!!

I try to be aware all the time of how blessed I am to have what I have and who I have in my life. I don't always manage it but I try...

Hi Barb,

What a busy, but wonderful time of year! I've just finished scrubbing and of course while waiting for floors to dry, I'm checking out blogs. Glad to see you online again and that your computer was fixed. Amazing how much we miss them when they aren't working, isn't it? Thanks for your sweet comments at my blog.

I'm about ready for Christmas...cleaning today and getting the rest of the groceries this evening or tomorrow. Baking and candy making tomorrow. I don't like to wrap either, but since I got the shopping done early for a change, I went ahead and wrapped too. I don't like cleaning either, LOL, but I can't do it too far ahead of time. I've already given hubby strict orders not to track dirt in! We'll see...:D

Weatherman is saying we may get around 5 inches of snow the end of the week. So we may have a white Christmas after all.

The Russian Tea sounds good and I like James Patterson books, too. That sounds like a plan...reading and sipping tea...that may have to wait until after Christmas!

Have a fun day making cookies with the grands. And may you and your family have the merriest of Christmases!

Hugs,
Cheryl

I love the quote. I find as I own up to my own short comings I'm less critical of others. I just loaded all my gifts into the car. I'm getting off of here and getting dressed and then loading up the food and off to my dd's for our Christmas Eve celebrations. I will get up very early in the morning and go over for the Christmas tree and dinner. My other dd's is coming tonight and staying with me. I wish I could find someone to fix my computer that quick. Bye for now. Blessings
