I remember now . . .

When I was in high school . . .I was an artist.  I loved to create, I loved to look at something and put what I saw on paper, it was my passion, I lived for it,  it was a talent that was given to me by my Heavenly Father.

Vickie at Sand Flat Farm, is doing a giveaway for her 200th post.  She is giving away a most  beautiful painting of the desert . . . that she painted.  As I was looking at the painting, in awe, I remembered how I used to love to create!  So, I started looking for some of the paintings that I had done many years ago.  I want to share a few of them with you.  Remember as you are looking at these, that I was probably 17 years old when I did them, so, they have many flaws and they are by no means  professional.

This is a self-portrait that was an assignment for our first day of art class, I was a junior in high school at the time.  We were required to use two different mediums, I chose pen and ink and acrylic.

This is a painting of my husband, he was the model for our art class in high school, no, we were not married, I didn't even know him at the time, but, I  got to know him while he was the model for the class.  I remember being so taken by him, that I had to finish most of the painting at home - looks like I got the hat a little large!

Looking at these paintings has sparked an interest in art again . . . I remember now. . . .I remember how good it felt to sit down with pen and paper and create something that was mine!

The Lord has given this talent to me to use and to magnify my calling here on earth.  I'm not sure how to use them for that purpose, but it is my job to find out.  I don't want to get to the other side and declare to the Lord that I squandered my talents.  I want to let Him know that I used them to the best of my ability, to benefit myself and others.  I believe that while we are not all equal in experience and strength, we will all be accountable for the use of the gifts, talents and opportunities given to us.

This is what I want to hear when I get to the other side . . .

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord”  Matt. 25:21.

Have a beautiful week-end.

Blessings and Hugs,

Barb, these are really good. I do hope you start painting and drawing again. If you do no more than hang your paintings for others to enjoy you are at least doing *something*. Maybe you are to encourage your children and grandchildren and leave a legacy for them?

Please know that you also have a talent for putting words together. That is a gift, too.

Several years ago (whoa, it seems like just a few months ago!) my daughter's piano teacher really scolded her and me both for "squandering our God-given talents" (instructor's words). I did nothing about mine. Daughter pursued hers for a while, but seems she is changing course. Hmmm...

Sometimes life gets in the way. Maybe God does that to us, too. We don't know.

Wow, you do have a God-given gift! What great art. How neat that you drew your husband, whom you didn't even know at the time you were drawing him. God has already used your gift in a big way! ;o)

How lucky you are, to be able to look at something and put it on paper. Mostly all I could do was copy the works of others.

Val - Ok Val, I know that you are an artist! Get out that pencil and start doing something - start now, don't wait until you are my age! Your musical talent is awesome, you are multi-talented! Love you.

Karen - You are also a wonderful artist! What about that picture you did in oils - the landscape? It was beautiful! Maybe we should take an art class together?! I can't even count your talents! Love you.

Cindy Sue - I know that you have a love for music, I've seen it in your posts - go back and take piano lessons, it's not too late. My daughter, who is 26 is taking piano lessons and she loves it. You also have a way with words, the fish baking experience! A hoot! I think the God gives us challenges and sometimes we have to put out talents on hold, but we should never forget we have them - I would love to hear you play the piano. Hugs

Susan - I've been inspired, so I guess I better get busy. It will be hard to start, but I'm going to give it a try! Blessings

Rhonda - My husband claims that he had a dream shortly after he was the model in my art class that we got married - how's that for inspiration! Blessings

Auntie - If you can copy the works of others, you must be wonderful!! I'm sure that even if it was a copy it would have your magical touch! Hugs

OH! Barb,
How gifted and talented you are, and you are right, This is a gift from God, and I am so happy that you are going to let this gift flow through you once again. I truly envy people who can take a paint brush or pencil and paint or draw what they see. Sometimes when I look at a sunset or look up at the sky I say "Lord how I would love to paint this and share with others."
Thank you for this scripture, it has given me so much to think about. I truly want the Lord to be pleased with me.
I have truly been blessed by this post.
Hugs,
Sue
