A Peek into my Week . . .

Something from my Playlist . . .  I chose this song because it's just a good reminder to always be thankful for good friends.  In December, I lost one of my best friends to leukemia.  7 years ago, I lost another best friend, who happened to be his wife.  It was so bittersweet for me  Sherman left behind 4 beautiful children and two grand babies, and a sweet fiance.  He was suppose to be getting married on December 18th, instead,  that was the day he was buried.  Sherman was the most wonderful, caring man.  Truly a great example to all who knew and loved him, he will be missed greatly by all his . . . friends.

Mother Nature . . . Today my husband and I decided to make a run to Walgreens.  Not only did I get some great buys, like gift bags for .29, dark chocolate covered cherries for $1.04, and dark chocolate kisses for $1.14, plus, I really needed to get some hair color . . .  just sayin'.  After I was done making my great buys, we decided to take a drive.  At first we thought we would just take a ride up by the foothills, check out the deer; instead we ended up at Palisades and Swan Valley, about 50 miles from home.  A little more than just a ride  . . . :0)  It was really beautiful, a little foggy, with beautiful light blue skies where the sun was shining and brilliant white snow.

When I was looking at these pictures, it was easy for me to see why painters always use, blue and purple, especially when painting winter scenes . . . so pretty!

On my Mind . . .  As we were driving, I was thinking about something I heard on T.V. last week.  A man was talking about goals, and how so many New Year's Resolutions are made, but never kept.  He said that instead of making a bunch of goals that he will never keep, he just chooses one value, something that he needs to work on, and works on it through the year.  I loved that idea.  I am sooooo bad with any kind of resolution, but I could probably keep just one.  So, I decided that value would be . . . SELF-WORTH.  I think it is something almost all of us could work on.

“If only you could sense how important you are to the lives of those you meet; how important you can be to people you may never even dream of. There is something of yourself that you leave at every meeting with another person.”
~ Fred Rogers~
Yes, that's the kind of person I want to be . . .

Comfort from the Kitchen . . . I don't have a recipe to share today, but, I think this year I will be working on making more healthful meals.  Not necessarily, less fat, or less carbs, or less sugar, but just more nutritious.  I'll be sharing some of those with you soon.

In a Nutshell . . . This month is already flying by, I can hardly believe it is January 8th.  I have already started on some Christmas gifts for next year; nothing big, just something homemade.  It seems like time does not stand still very long, I have a very busy month ahead of me.  I am going to try to enjoy the small moments more, worry about the big moments less, and just enjoy each day a little more, no matter what comes along . . . wish me luck!

  3. So sorry for the loss of your friends. I have a good friend who is battling lung cancer. Before Christmas, the doctor told her she was cancer free and we all rejoiced. Now the cancer has returned. Tough stuff. I love the pictures from your drive. Idaho really is a beautiful state. We also got some great "after Christmas" bargains and I got some things purchased and packed away as gifts for next Christmas. Have a very good weekend!

  4. Hi Barb, So sorry to hear of your friend's passing. It is so hard to lose good friends; but how blessed we are to have had them and their lasting influence in our lives. I loved the pictures you posted from your drive. Such beautiful country. Can't believe you are already thinking about next Christmas. My friend and I were just talking about getting started on some projects so that we are not always hustling when the season gets so busy. So glad to read your post and how thankful I am that we made contact and that you are my "friend". You have blessed my life in many ways as I've read your blog. I really need to get back to posting--at least writing something once a week. This past year has been very challenging and I'm hoping that in some small way, I learned the lessons my Heavenly Father wanted me to learn. and that this year will be a better one. Take care and keep those posts coming. Nola

  5. Hi Barb....I love stopping by your place! Always so interesting! Funny thing...if we had that much snow here in our area, we would be shut down and not able to journey out for a ride. Here in East Texas, it only takes a few snowflakes for the grocery stores to be packed and for everything to shut down. LOL. I'm not good with New Year's Resolutions....I've just learned not to make them. I'm with you though...SEFL WORTH is a great one! Hoping you have a wonderful week dear friend.

  6. Oh, I do love this one. I am so sorry you lost a dear friend in December. I think that is a lovely month but not one for having a loved one pass away. I loved your 50 mile drive photos. I love winter pictures and you got some great shots. My parents were like you; they would go for a drive and it was usually a long one. I still love to go on drives; but we don't have many opportunities anymore to do that.
I remember for a couple of years using a word to work on or you could say a value. I like that idea. My resolutions never happened and I was mainly just coping the last years list of New Year resolutions that I hadn't accomplished. Now I basically don't do them at all. I do like the idea of working on just one things.
I will look forward to your posts on nutritional meals. Roger and I could use some work on this one.
Well, my dear friend I enjoyed reading your post as I always do. I really liked your quote today too. That is such a sweet thought.
Thanks for being such choice friends; love and hugs for you both and blessings too!
