On a Friday in February . . .

I snapped this photo a few nights ago, the sunsets have been very pretty, and moving more and more to the North every day.

The golf course opened here, and it's the earliest that it has ever opened - guess where my husband is today?!  It's hard to believe it's not even the middle of February and he's already golfing.   He loves it when he can get outside, so do I, it makes him a happier man, and me a happier wife.

Today really was just an ordinary Friday.  I decided to make bread, not that I need it, but I wanted it, there's a difference, right?!  I love caraway rye bread, so I made two loafs, it is delicious.  There's just something about caraway that makes my tongue happy.  It's not like dill, which I also love...kinda, but different, I just love it.  For those of you who don't like caraway/rye bread, making it homemade is just so much better than store-bought, soooo much more flavor.

Done!

You know I'm serious about, Junk Journals, I am you know... :0)  So I decided to go through some old files that I had stored away in my file cabinet...I'd forgotten how much I loved these old ideas, they still make me happy.

This is one of my favorite ideas, I've had this photo for about 15 years!  Painted scenes on a painted door...love, love!  I'm so glad I decided to do this project.

Speaking of projects.  We, decided that it was high time to go through old photos and keepsakes.  No sense in my kids having to go through them, because they wouldn't even know what some of the things were!

Do you have things like this?  I'd forgotten that I even had some of this stuff.  Piles of old cards, that I can't throw away...yet.  Family history, old photos.  And speaking of photos, I was shocked at how quickly those old photos lost their color, and some of them were just fuzzy.  Some of the problem was the person behind the camera!  Photography has come a long way in the last 40 years.

Of course it could be the boxes I kept them in - anyone else keep photos in old shoe boxes?  Probably not the best idea.  The garbage can is full of old photos that we didn't have a clue what they were.  If they didn't have a person in them, or a place that we could recognize, they were out.  Technology has sure made it easy to keep track of photos.  Next I need to go through my photos on my computer and make files.  I have most of them on an external drive, but I need to put them all on it.  It's so easy to print photos these days.  The other day I needed to make a copy of a few photos, it took 5 minutes at Walgreen's, seriously.  I need to make copies of a lot of my photos; no one will look at them on the external drive.  Of course, I have my blog.  Do you think that photos will last in cyber-space?

Looks like I have my work cut out for me for the next few weeks.  The problem is, I have two or three large bins in the closet that look just like the ones above.  To tell you the truth, it was kinda fun to go through them, I'd forgotten how cute my kids were, how many great adventures we'd had, and how skinny me and my husband were...;0)

Have a great week-end, be safe!

Hugs and Love,

Hello my friend!
Would you believe...I have never made bread???
I am thinking about trying it sometime.
Perhaps you have given me the courage!
And yes...
I have actually been doing the same thing with pictures and cards and receipts...
Some things I kept I am glad.
Other things...I think...Why in the world did I keep these????
LOL!
Have a cozy afternoon, my friend!
Rainy here. : )

Barb...Actually, I've never even tasted caraway rye bread. Guess I should put that on my bucket list, eh?!
Another thing to put on my bucket list would be to go through my enormous suit case of photos and our keep-the-door shut roll top desk.
Hmmm, you've given me a lot to think about for the day.
Have a wonderful day, my friend - Marsha

Hi Barb, the bread sure looks good...there's nothing like homemade bread. And the aroma wafting through the air while it's baking...oh my!
I also have scads of old photos that need to be gone through. I started out putting photos in albums, but along the way I quit doing that and now they are scattered all over one drawer or another. Love how we can put photos on flash drives to save now and print out the ones we want to frame, etc.
Love the painted panels on the door. I used to tole paint years ago and wish I'd learned to water paint. It sounds like a good hobby to get into if I ever get my organizing/purging caught up. Yeah right, I won't be rushing out to buy paints any time soon. lol!
Have a nice weekend, dear friend!
Hugs,
Cheryl

This was such a motivating post for me , Barb, I have been thinking like you, not wanting my children to have to deal with all this stuff, way much! I think older ideas are better than the new ones, and like you have kept lots of them, especially old magazines, just haven't brought myself to throw them away, yet, ~smile~ I am working on getting started.
How nice that your weather has warmed ours is up and down, really warm today but turning much colder Tuesday.
I would so love to make rye bread, it is one of my favorites.
Thank you for visiting,
Blessings,
Sue

Barb, oh it would be much fun to share a cup of tea and go through all your photos and papers with you. Enjoy your journal making and a slice of bread too! xo

Darn, I left a long comment here the other day but it didn't post. (iPad, say no more!) Your bread looks gorgeous. I am not that great at making bread, but you clearly have a talent for it! I love going through old papers and photos. Sadly I do not have many photos of the 22 years I was married and bringing up my children. My ex would not let me have any of them. (Meanie) Any photos I have are ones that my mother shared with me, thank goodness. I am glad that you are feeling a lot better now and getting creative. I can't wait to see what you make! Love you! xoxo PS - Happy Valentines Day! (Loving the music!)

Oh my dear friends, it was so fun to see you both. I didn't think we had enough time together however. So fun to see Christian take this step and the blessing was lovely. We have such great kids.
I loved your sunset photo and of course, borrowed it. We are so a like in so many ways except I'm not as good of cook. I need the recipe for your bread; just maybe I will try to make it.
I loved the photos of the pictures. I liked the idea of a living wreath.
Going through papers and photos is one of my biggest projects I want to do. I hope I can do some because I think about it all the time. I have tons of saved cards and even some of my Mom's that I haven't been able to give up. Then there are tons of photos in boxes and on the computer. I am so afraid my computer will die and I will lose the someway. We have a lot of pictures too that we don't know who the people are. Some advice for children is lable your photos the ones in boxes and on-line.
It is always fun to look at the photos of ourselves and children through the years. There's so many projects that I need to get done but can't find a moment to do it.
I'm happy that Bob could go golfing. I think I need Roger to start having some hobbies too.
Sending warm loving thoughts, Valentine wishes and big hugs your way!

Happy Spring!
