A Peek into my Week . . .

Something from my Playlist . . . This song always reminds me of all the years that my husband worked and traveled around the country.  He would be gone for months at a time, it was always so sad to see that airplane take off, but we made it through!  I would love to go somewhere right now!  It's cold here, and the cold does not like me, especially my feet, it hates my feet.

I adore, Merle Haggard, always have.  My husband is a cowboy, a true cowboy!  On our first date, I remember driving down 1st street, (which was THE place to be), playing, "Okie from Muskogee", on the eight-track player, I know, some of you may not know what that is, it played music!  Enjoy, if you like country music.  If not, skip it!

Mother Nature. . . It's cold outside.  It snowed about 1 inch last night.  We are suppose to warm up to about 35 degrees this afternoon, so it will rain.  Then towards evening, it will start to snow again, making for some very treacherous roads.  I'm tired of winter, not the snow, just winter.

When we brought mom home on Wednesday, the icicles were so long on the building.  The longest one only came within inches of the ground.

On My Mind . . . I've read quite a few blogs  that talk about being real - I like that.  I do think that sometimes when I blog, I tend to make things seem like life is wonderful all the time.  It's. not.  I turned 60 on my last birthday, and I feel like I'm 60.  I have aches and pains, I'm slower than I used to be, there are things I just can't do anymore, and I'm not sure I love that.  This last week was one of those weeks that I hurt most of the week.  I was slower at getting out of bed, and I am slower at getting ready for the day.  My life is good, but it's not perfect, but it's my life, and I'm very content with it.

I love being at home, I love having my husband home with me, I hear women say that they just wish that their husband was not under-foot so much, and I can honestly say that I don't feel that way.  I love having him home with me.  We help each other, we share and do tasks together, we cook together, we clean together and we enjoy life together.  Life is good, even with the ups and downs.

Dreaming of . . .

I love this little pincushion, isn't it cute?!   Pop over to Wee Folk Art and it has all the instructions.  She has a wonderful blog with so many cute and crafty things to make.  I would love to make a few of these for Christmas gifts.

I love this idea.  I am always looking for my remote, and I have lots of old jeans that can be refurbished.  This looks very easy.  I found the idea here.

sweet dreams on fun pillows:

I think we've all seen these cute pillow cases with crochet around the edges.  I saw this idea on Flicker.  If you follow Flicker, it was on Rose Hips group.  They are so cute, I love all the fun fabric.

Some Cuteness . . .   Last Saturday my kids were all here for pie and ice cream.  It was my daughter-in-law's birthday, and we love to have a celebration!  My two oldest granddaughters looked so cute and I just have to share the cuteness.

Taylor Jo is adorable, sweet. kind, and beautiful.  She is a wonderful daughter, sister, cousin and grand!  Isn't she a cutie?!

Emily, my second oldest granddaughter is adorable too, and had the cutest braid and bun in her hair.  She is a cutie as well!  I can tell these two girls are related, they have the same beautiful eyes!

Comfort from the Kitchen . . .

I made these delicious biscotti at Christmas time, they were so good!  I think I might make more today, they are easy to make and they store beautifully.  I know that it's not good to eat sweets at night, but I love to have something sweet in the evening.  I found the recipe here.

Snicker-doodle Biscotti

2¾ cups all-purpose flour
1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Topping:
1 egg white
1 teaspoon water
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

DIRECTIONS:

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper; set aside.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, baking powder and salt; set aside.
3. Cream together the sugar and butter on medium speed until light and fluffy, 3 to 5 minutes, scraping the sides of the bowl as needed. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating until each is thoroughly combined. Add the vanilla and mix to combine. Reduce the mixer speed to low and gradually add the dry ingredients, mixing just until a dough forms.
4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface and rub your hands with a little flour. Divide the dough in two and form each half into a log about 4 inches wide by 10 inches long. Places the logs on the prepared baking sheet. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg white and water, and brush each log evenly. In a separate small bowl, stir together the ¼ cup granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Sprinkle evenly over the brushed dough.
5. Bake on the prepared baking sheet until lightly browned and small cracks form on top, about 25 minutes. Remove from oven and cool slightly on the baking sheet, about 10 minutes (leave the oven on). Transfer the logs to a cutting board. Slice diagonally in generous ½-inch slices. Place them cut side up on the baking sheet and bake an additional 15-20 minutes or until slightly browned, turning over half way through. Cool completely on a wire rack. Biscotti can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for two weeks.

Just Sayin' . . .

every step will show:

Have a wonderful week-end!

Hope that they get those icicles off their buildings! Good to see that there are no walkways beneath them.

Oh for sure growing older is no piece of cake. I had a four-hour nap this afternoon because I needed it. Crazy. Your hubby sounds like a wonderful help. My hubby tends to lots of things, but he doesn't cook or clean. =D

I hear you loud and clear...... As you know, I just turned 60 a few days ago and yes, I am feeling it, too. I like Merle Haggard. Western is good, especially the good old songs.

Roger's on the phone with James so there is time to read your awesome blog. I, too am so tired of cold. My feet are cold all the time. It looks like more snow is coming. We are out in it more so I am looking forward to spring. Like you I love being around my hubby and we like to cook and clean together. We are loving doing our mission stuff together. Of course I love our shared granddaughter and your other sweet one is adorable too. Thanks for your recipe too. Sending lots of love and hugs to both of you!

Oh my goodness, those icicles remind me of the winters we had when growing up. I have pictures of me peeking out the kitchen window with all the icicles. Brought to mind some fun memories. We don't have any icicles hanging here, but we are getting lots of new snow. I am so ready for spring and warm weather. The pincushion is adorable and I love the idea for keeping remotes all together. Crocheting around the pillowcase edges is something I haven't seen in ages. My mother used to do that all the time. May have to try it. May have to try your recipe, sounds so yummy! Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. Nola

Lovely post, sweet Barb!
Me too... I am tired of winter. Not one to complain, and I know that saying it doesn't change anything, but I am so tired of winter. Praying and hoping for an early spring.
Your Grands are darling girls and they have such sweet countenances. One of your greatest blessings, I'm sure.

Thanks for sharing your recipes... they always look so yummy.
Also, thanks for your kindness and honesty. .... love that about you!

Believe me, our life isn't perfect, but it's perfect for us! I too adore my sweet husband, and I am so grateful for our life together, and it's nice that other couples feel the same way :)
As we draw closer and closer to retirement, I get more and more excited to have each and every day to spend with my sweetheart and best friend!

Have a wonderful day, and I hope that this month is a great month for you guys.
Also.. hopefully, the warmer winds will blow our way and melt off some of this snow we have :)

I enjoyed your post, Barb. It's always good to see what is going on at your house. I look forward to my hubby retiring, but he's in no hurry to do so even if he is 67. I'm not going to fuss about it, tho, because I'm happy he loves to work and loves his job so much. He is handy around the house fixing things, but he won't do housework or cook! So I wouldn't have any help in that area. ha! Oh well. I am so much slower too, and I've relaxed a bit in that I don't feel like the house has to look perfect anymore. Life is too short and there is much to enjoy besides cleaning all the time! :) Our lives aren't perfect, but it works for us. Your grands are both so pretty and look like a couple of sweeties. And the recipe sounds really good...I like something sweet to eat once in a while, too. Have a great week!

Finally April~

I know, I'm a little late, but I finally made it! Outside my window ~   I can't even tell you how happy I am that April is here!  ...
