Winter wonderland . . . .or something like that!

Yesterday, it started to snow, just gently at first  . . . we expect this kind of behavior in Idaho!

But then it started coming down in bucket fulls, my poor trees!

We tried to save them from breaking, but the snow was sooooo heavy and coming down hard!

Jessica came over and we tried to knock the snow off of the lowest branches so they would not break . . . but the snow was unrelenting!!  She resembed a Popsicle by the time she finally came in the house - thank you sweet Jessica, for giving up your fingers and toes to frostbite!

At 3:00 a.m., I finally got up to see what all the racket was, it sounded like bombs going off in my yard!  It was the branches breaking off of the trees and falling to the ground, and the huge chunks of snow falling on the roof!  My poor trees - their branches were almost touching the ground.  I can usually walk under these branches!

By the time my husband got home from work, the damage had been done . . . 5 inches of the white stuff!

We just have lots of clean-up to do now.  There are still lots of big broken branches up in the the trees that didn't make it to the ground.  We will have to get the chain saw and cut them out.  I'm so glad I don't live where they get ice storms!

Never a dull moment at my house!  Think I'll just go in and have a cup of hot chocolate!
Warm Hugs,

Oh, no. So sorry about your trees! We didn't have snow right here in town, or we'd have had the same problem. However, there were many, many cars around that had up to 4 inches of snow on them. Brrrr.

What a shame your beautiful tree's were damaaged. Just awoke to a massive electrical storm here - thunder, lightening and wet, wet, wet!

You've got to be kidding me! Barb - Snow? Already? It's on October 7!

Well, it IS pretty, I have to admit - sorry about your trees tho. We had a BAD ice storm several years ago and lost several trees...

Your daughter is a cutie - with snow in her hair or not!

Hi, Barb
Oh my gosh! Snow!! It's amazing to think you have snow and I had to turn the a/c on today because it was so warm in the house. Sorry about your trees. Hope they will be okay. I know that winter weather will be here soon enough.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Whoa! Snow in early October is amazing! I truly wish we lived closer, as I'd love to have a chat over a cup of hot chocolate while the snow falls outside. We had our first truly "chilly" night (no open windows) and I've got a cup of pumpkin spice coffee here, but no one to chat with! Your blog with the great music is a good substitute, though! :o)

I wonder if it's going to be an early winter this year. October is still unusual for snow even in Idaho isn't it? Hope your trees recover.

Boy, you really got hit. Thankfully the snow stayed in the mountains here, but we are soaked with all the rain. So sorry about your trees. It is so hard to lose branches and then there's all the work involved in cleaning up. Do enjoy that hot chocolate and maybe this next week will be a little better. Nola

I read about this happening at Jill's blog, too. How awful for trees in full leaf to bear the weight of all that snow. Ugh. Though it's been years since the dreaded ice storm, I still remember the crack of the limbs. The trees actually cried every night. It sounded like a massacre. The thing is, the trees are forever changed by such an event. We've lost so many beauties since. They told us then that the scenery would be changed for the remainder of our lifetimes. True enough. Hope that you don't find as much damage as you might have suspected. And no more snow, until it's time, would be nice.

I am glad I stopped by. Poor trees please revive I do the your shade in the summer time!!!!! It was "fun" to help, and who needs gloves when I have my son's shoes.

This is the probably the first time I am glad we don't have big trees...the ONLY time I may say that. Our neighbors BIG trees (100 years old) had large branches break off and took out our power for 7+ hours. Mercy! It was great for our kids to experience power outage that long....although we stiff drove to town to get pizza and Diet Pepsi to get us (me) through.... hee hee!

Yikes! Those poor trees! Ya, the snow was not welcome for me. I am not ready for winter.

Hope the trees recover before the next onslaught.

You beat us here in Wisconsin for the first snow! We usually get dumped on for the first time about the middle of October.

Your poor broken trees....

Yes Barb, my latest Header pic is of one of "Uncle A.'s" Old Roses, which is still blooming. It is so lovely, and I just had to take a pic of it.

Thank you for liking it, used in my Header.
