Simple Woman's Daybook...

FOR TODAY - February 1, 2011

Outside my window... It's so cold!!  This morning it was  minus 14 below- right now it's about 8 degrees!  But, the sun is shining, and it's just beautiful outside!!  I can almost tolerate the cold when the sun is shining!

I am thinking... About all of the things I need to get done this week.  I have some sewing I need to work on, some organizing I need to do (so I can sew!).  Some paperwork that needs to be done before Monday.   Just piddly things that I tend to put off!

I am thankful for... Pandora Radio!  I love being able to listen to the kind of music that I love with just the click of a key!!  I'm also thankful that my hairdresser could make me feel human again!

Please don't pay any attention to the bags under my eyes. . .  :0)  The back of my hair is really cute and spiky, but I couldn't get a picture of it!

A Scripture to share...

A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
~John 13:34~
From the kitchen... I have a big pot of Chili simmering on the stove!  It smells really good, I can hardly wait to eat dinner tonight!!  Yesterday, I made the most wonderful salad dressing - I found it here, at Aprons & Apples, a wonderful blog!  This dressing is so good, I could have eaten it by the spoonful, it has quickly become my favorite!  Yesterday I also made bread, my daughters were here with a few of their children, so we all enjoyed  hot bread with butter and honey, yummmm!

I am wearing... Jeans, a brown long sleeved t-shirt, black socks and . . . shoes!

I am creating... Thursday, I'm going to be creating some freezer meals for my daughter who is getting ready to have a baby.  I can't think of anything better than to go to the freezer and take out something already made,  and ready to put in the oven, especially when you have three little ones to take care of!  She has her babies c-section and will be down for a few weeks . . . if I have anything to say about it . . . :0)

I am going... to hopefully go to lunch with mom and sis tomorrow.  I will also, hopefully, be picking up my new glasses.  I have worn contacts for the last few years, but I just don't see well enough with them anymore.  does anyone else have that problem?

I am reading... I would love to be reading something, but . . . not enough time right now!

I am hoping... That I can come up with some cute ideas for my DIL's baby shower.  I think we have the invitation ready to go, but we are still not sure on the food.  Suggestions are welcome!

I am hearing... Dean Martin singing. "Sway"!

Around the house... Not much going on around here - just the usual necessary things that need to be done on a regular basis!  I've been trying to go to bed earlier, so that when I get up with my husband at 4:15 a.m., I can stay up without getting so tired in the afternoon.  So far it hasn't worked!!  I still go back to bed, mostly because it is cold.  I tell myself that I will just watch t.v. for a little while, but I always fall asleep.

One of my favorite things... Going to the movies with my sweetheart.  Last Saturday, we went and saw True Grit.  I really liked it!  I loved the original with John Wayne, but I really liked the re-make too!  Now, if they could just do something about the price of popcorn!!

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Tomorrow - Lunch with mom and sis.
Thursday - Make freezer meals with my daughter.
Friday - Hang out with my husband.
Saturday - Again, we will make an attempt to work on the bathroom?!
Sunday - Church

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

'It's spring fever.  That is what the name of it is.  And when you've got it, you want - oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!'
  ~Mark Twain~

Bags? What bags? We are so hard on ourselves, aren't we?! Funny story: my sister came home from a trip with gifts for the kids (Aunt La is definitely their favorite). She tends to get in a tizzy easily and was all flustered because she couldn't find the gift bags. She kept saying, "My bags...where are my bags????" Of course, dear baby brother couldn't hold himself back, "Right there under your eyes where you left them, LaLa!"
I always enjoy these posts that you do...like a chat over a cup of coffee!

It was bitter cold today-I can handle snow, heat, hail, rain you name it other than bitter cold. I am excited for Thursday! Thank you for all you do for me!!! Love you!

Hey there Barb! Good to hear from you! Your hair looks so cute - I'd love to see the back! Spikes, huh? Very modern, and I'll bet it's so easy to keep. My husband doesn't want me to cut mine. I did a few years ago, and he said it was cute, but when I decided to let it grow again, he was thrilled! He asked me not to cut it again. What is it with men and long hair???

New baby and sewing and cooking - you are a busy lady. But you know what? You can definitely get alot done when you're swaying to "Sway" by Deano or Michael! Love that song!!! Tony and I saw True Grit a couple of weeks ago, and we really enjoyed it, too! But nobody can beat "the Duke"! Stay warm!

I thought of a couple of things while reading this. So I will number them! Hahah
1. I LOVE pandora. I just recently discovered it (thanks to Michelle) and can't get enough of it.
2. I think freezer meals is the best idea for someone that is going to have a baby.
3. Love your hair.
4. Her are some ideas for the baby shower-Build your own croissant sandwich, raspberry pretzel salad, pasta salad, yummy stuff like that. Hope that helps!
Enough of my lists and really long comments! Love you!

Hi Barb, I love your haircut! You look so cute...what bags? My bags are bigger than yours...:D Of course, I'm older than you. Wish I knew how to get rid of the darn things! And a few wrinkles, too, for that matter. LOL!

About the contacts, I wore them for years and years, but I finally gave them up when I couldn't see to read and needed glasses for that. I'm very nearsighted so my glasses are the graduated lenses. I still miss my contacts, tho! I just tell myself that the glasses hide the bags a little...ha!

True Grit is a movie we want to see, too. I love Jeff Bridges and my hubby loves Westerns. I have heard a lot of people like it. But it would be hard to top John Wayne!

Hope you get your freezer meals made and your plans finalized for the shower. You are a busy bee...and I'm being a lazy slug! I just can't get motivated to start some of the projects I have in mind to do.

Take care and stay warm.

Hugs,
Cheryl

I love your hair! Very cute and hopefully easy to take care of.

I saw True Grit with John Wayne and have no inclination to see this one. Mind you, we haven't been to the movies since our son was twelve and he's now thirty one!!! That could have something to do with it!! :)

Your hair looks cute. You sound pretty busy. I feel that way too. My housework gets done when I have the time and energy. It's really cold here today, but we can't complete with the temps. you get. Ahhh Spring. I never loved spring that much until I moved north. In Calif. we really didn't have much of a spring. This is always that time of year when I start to wish winter would hurry up and go away. I noticed my hellaboris are blooming. They are always the first thing to bloom.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your hair!!!! Oh sigh. Oh my. How I love it! And especially the fact that you have nice, thick hair, to wear that style. Needless to say, I do not. Have thick hair. Plus my hair has thinned on my scalp, with age. -Bleahhhhhhhhhhh- lol.

But it's super that you CAN wear this style, and that you DO so!!!!!! Hooray!!!!!

You are really having coldddddddddddd temps!

Think it is wonderful, that you're going to prepare freezer meals, with your daughter. It will be so wonderful, for her to have them! Wow yes!

Hugs and ♥'s...
'Cause Valentine Day is coming!

I love the spring look of your blog. I can hardly wait for the cold to go away. Yesterday, it felt like we were living in Alaska.
I was warmed by your post. The Chili sounded so good. I can just picture myself sitting at your counter and enjoying all of your great cooking.
Maybe sometime that can happen. I am so excited about the two new babies you are getting. What fun to have little ones to hold again.
I spent the day with my son Sean at the Hospital. He had surgery today and he did good; tomorrow will be a hard day for him. I am heading for Heber to help for a few hours with Joshua, age 4 and my son.
Hopefully, I will get a Simple Woman's Daybook entry tomorrow; I think they are so fun.
Hugs and blessings to you! LeAnn

Hi Barb,
I love your hair!! It's very cute, and looks so easy to take care of.

My husband saw True Grit. I told him I couldn't watch it, because no one could be better than John Wayne. (We are both JW fans.) He thought it was okay. We watched the JW version on tv the other night.

Freezer meals for the new mother sound like a good idea!

I'm giving my daughter a baby shower in April. She wanted a baby jungle animal theme. I bought some decorations at Party City. They are made by Fisher Price. The decorations are very cute. I think she wants to do the nursery in that theme too. They are having a boy. I'm still unsure what what food I'm going to serve, but I still have a couple of months to decide.

I hope you are staying warm and cozy in your cold weather. Take care, and enjoy the rest of your week! :)

Barb I love, love, love your new "do." Your hair is a similar colour to mine. I have a hair cut booked for a couple of weeks away as my hairdresser is on hols. You know how it is one day fine and the next arggg you can't do a thing with it. I can't wait till he comes back from holidays.

Barb,

I so love your haircut and color! Beautiful! I am thinking about getting my hair cut very short again but I think I'll wait until spring. I don't want to freeze my ears! :)
