Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY - January 25, 2011

Outside my window... Last night we got about 4 inches of new snow.  It's also cold, 25 degrees or so.  The roads are icy and slick, so I won't be venturing out today!  Although, there is an up-side - the trees are just beautiful with all of that white frosting and everything looks clean and fresh!  It's cold and cloudy, but at least it looks beautiful outside!

I am thinking...How much I would love to get my hair cut!  It just hit that "impossible to do anything with" stage!

I am thankful for...People who cheer me up, keep me going, encourage me, make me laugh, and allow me to help them.

A thought to share...

"What I need to live has been given to me by the earth.  Why I need to live has been given to me by you.''

From the kitchen... I think I will make a meatloaf tonight - it's one of those comfort foods that always make me feel better on a day like today . . . sigh . . .

I am wearing... Jeans, a light blue sweater, black socks.

I am creating... I'm making receiving blankets and burp cloths for my new little grandbabies.  Also crocheting a beautiful little blanket for my almost here little baby girl~

I am going...to try to get my house cleaned and get some organizing done today.  Last week I got the dreaded stomach flu!  The older we get, the harder those little bugs are on us, so, today, I'm finally feeling like doing something.

I am reading...Nothing right now.

I am hoping...That my daughter, who is due the end of February, does not over due it.  I don't think you ever stop worrying about your kids - I sometimes worry even more now than I used to!

I am hearing...The furnace kicking on to keep my toes warm - baby it's cold outside!

Around the house...
Clean the kitchen
vacuum the floors
organize fabric and patterns

One of my favorite things...Sitting in the sun - no hope of that today, but I love it when the sun shines in through the window and I can just soak in it's rays!

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Today - clean and organize a few things
Tomorrow - hopefully get my hair cut
Thursday - grocery shop
Friday - whatever hubby wants to do
Saturday - maybe work on downstairs bathroom
Sunday - Church

Here are a few pictures I am sharing...

It was my DIL's birthday on Sunday, so we all got together to have dinner and cake and icecream!  We somehow convinced my sweet little granddaughter to put on her great-grandfather's navy clothes.  My husband's father was vertically challenged - he was only about 5' 5" on his tippy toes!  Taylor Jo is 10 years old, the sleeves and pants were too long, and the clothes were just a tad big, but isn't it amazing that they almost fit?  We thought about trying them on Christian, who is 12, but he wouldn't even have been able to get the shirt over his head (Christian is tall - probably 5' 6" or so)!  The flag behind Taylor is the flag that was presented to my husband's mother at his father's funeral.

This was Brody's biggest smile!!  I gave him a haircut, and he was so excited, that he wanted me to take a picture of him!  Right after Brody started school this year, I went and helped his class make a cute little paper eagle out of a paper bag - not a big deal to me, I was pleased as punch to do it!  While I was cutting his hair, he asked me if I would come to his school again and "perform" for his class - isn't it funny what kids think?  All I did was sit behind a desk and help, I didn't sing or dance!  Anyway,  he told me that the day I came and helped was,  " . . . the best day in the history of school!".   Oh how I love that boy!

One last picture . . .

I'm not sure who took this cute picture of Emily, I think it was Brody.  This is our sweet little Emily tucked between two chairs, looking like an angel!

Stay warm - keep dry - laugh a little - cry a little - love a lot!

Warm hugs,

  3. Barb,

I think we get your storms a few days later than you do. Can you believe all this snow? I hope spring is on its way soon.

  5. Well, Barb, if I had read your blog first I wouldn't have had to write a book. The pictures I asked to see were already posted and I love the pink blanket. The flannel you selected is so cute and you've done such a lovely edge around it. What wonderful treasures for these new little ones to be wrapped and snuggled in. Think our storms follow each other. I agree though that the trees were so pretty all frosted in white. I know what you mean about a hair cut. You reach that certain stage and it seems almost impossible to do anything with it. I'm
getting one Friday and can hardly wait. Love the pictures of the grandchildren, especially the one of your granddaughter in her ggrandfathers navy clothes. Don't you just love it when your grandchildren think you are awesome and want you to come back to school or just do things with them. Thanks for sharing your daybook. I love reading it! Nola

  6. As usually I enjoyed every word expressed and all the sweet pictures. Your grandchildren are so adorable and of course some of them are mine. We too have snow and cold today. Yesterday was almost sweater weather; it is amazing how it can change in an instant.
I felt warmed by your thoughts. This is the time of year where it is easy to feel down. I am finding that many of the blogs I follow lift my soul or at least I feel there are others out there with bigger problems than I have.
By the way, I was catching up on my Empty Nest blog and I stole a couple of your pictures of Christian and Taylor playing sport. I didn't get very good pictures when we were up there so hopefully that is OK.
    Love you much! LeAnn
Also, how can we get that Amber girl to start blogging again? She was the best at making me smile everyday. I miss her and actually we need a good talk soon.

  7. Hi Barb,

We are on the same wave length again. It's kinda scary...LOL! I've been needing a haircut, too! I called today and they will get me in Thursday. Yippee. I just hate when my hair is too long and I can't do anything with it.

I love the blankets you're making. You are so talented! Maybe your daughter will deliver a little early? I know you'll be glad when it's all over and that sweet baby is here. I'm a worrier, too. I thought when my children were adults that I'd quit worrying, but I think I worry more!

Your grands are so cute! I think what Brody said is so sweet and doesn't it make you feel special to think that your visit was "the best day in the history of the school"? That is precious and I know you'll treasure that remark always.

I hope the snowing stops for a while for all of us. We've had more than enough, as far as I'm concerned! I can't wait for warmer weather so I can get outside. I don't do cold weather very well, so I stay in more than I want to.

Take care, my friend, and have a good day!

    Hugs,
    Cheryl

  8. Hi Barb! You're such a great grandma! Little Brody's smile is so cute! You're so lucky to have some little grandkids - hopefully I'll get to have some one day! You need a T-shirt that says "Best Grandma in the World"!

My MIL crocheted a beautiful pink blankie for my daughter 22 years ago. I kept it and I ran across it the other day. It's still so beautiful and I know yours will be treasured, too.

Go get your hair cut and enjoy it! But until it gets warm you'll need to crochet yourself a warm fluffy neck wrap! Have a wonderful week!

  10. Hi Barb,
The photos of your grandchildren are just so sweet! Thank you for sharing them. I hope you are feeling better after having the flu, and you are able to get your hair cut. The blanket you are crocheting is beautiful. I'd like to crochet a blanket for our coming grandson, but I don't have much experience crocheting. Do you have a very simple pattern to share?

I hope you have a wonderful week ahead. Take care... :)
