Simple Woman's Daybook....

FOR TODAY - January 5, 2010

Outside my window... It has been lightly snowing most of the night, so there is a fresh layer of fluff on everything.  It's a bit warmer today than yesterday, 12 degrees when I got up this morning!  Hoping that it will warm up enough to melt some of the ice on the roads!

I am thinking...This morning I was watching the news and Rosanne Barr was on talking about a book she had written.  I don't normally listen to Rosanne, but just as I was about to leave the room, she started talking about getting older, and how she is embracing it.  I want that attitude.  I want to embrace my life, no matter what age I am.  I'm thinking that this year, as a goal, I will try to like myself more, embrace the person that I am now, be more gentle with myself, try to take each minute and relish it and appreciate all of the gifts that I have been given.

I am thankful for...Kind friends who make me laugh, make me cry, lighten my life, teach me, humble me, and make me want to be a better person.

A scripture to share...

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven”
(Matt. 5:16)

From the kitchen... Loving my Nutrimill Grain Mill!  I made bread yesterday and it is so good.  People used to tell me that there was nothing like bread made from fresh ground wheat, and it's true!  So delicious, and nutritious!

I am wearing...Still in my flannel nightgown!

I am creating...I am going to be making aprons for my sweet little Averi.  I need to find a good pattern that will just slip over her head.  Blind children don't have the luxury of seeing all of those little drips and drops when they are eating!

I am going...To lunch with my mom and sis today.  My mother wants to buy a new pair of pants and needs to pick up a few things at the grocery store, so that's my plan for today.

I am reading...I'm reading Wren Bay.  It's a wonderful book written by Clairice Fox-Hughes.  Clarice as some of you know, has a wonderful blog about crafting, cooking, and decorating, http://storybookwoods.typepad.com .  The charachters in the book are charming and full of Victorian charm.  She also shares recipes and other wonderful helpful hints and tips.  Go check out Clarice's blog and read a little more about this wonderful book!

I am hoping...That the roads aren't slick and icy today - I really hate driving on slick roads!

I am hearing...Cole, barking at the back door, the soft hum of the computer, the sound of the furnace keeping my feet toasty and warm.

Around the house...Just trying to get back to normal after Christmas.  I still have Christmas decorations that need to taken down, laundry to be done, floors to be vacuumed and scrubbed, bathrooms to be cleaned, beds to be changed . . . but it can wait until tomorrow!

One of my favorite things...This is kind of silly, but one of my latest favorite things is Netflix!  I can get unlimited movies through my Wii.  In my opinion, there is very little on T.V. fit to watch these days.  Last week, we watched several wonderful documentary's, like PBS's Civil War series, Lewis and Clark, and a really interesting documentary on caves.  Most of the movies are old, but most are new to me!

A few plans for the rest of the week:

Today - Lunch with sis and mom.
Tomorrow - Finish cleaning and taking down decorations.
Thursday - Go to an eye Dr. appointment.
Friday  - Hang out with my husband, make a salad for a funeral.
Saturday - Hopefully, work on the downstairs bathroom.
Sunday - Church.
Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

 Lakota  - Morgan Weistling

"Grown men can learn from very little children—for the hearts of little children are pure. Therefore, the Great Spirit may show them many things that older people miss."

"I want to embrace my life, no matter what age I am."

What a wonderful goal that is! We all need it, no matter what point we are, on the road of a lifetime.

Maybe you will want to do some blogging, on how you are working toward that goal?????? And others could do it too. Maybe...?

Gentle Jan. hugs...

Dearest Barb, every time I read your Simple Woman's Daybook; I am warmed by your thought. I haven't had a moment to really look at blogs for a few days so this is a treat for me tonight. Roger is working at the temple and I have a few moments to just think. Thanks for your thoughts they inspire me. Maybe I should make a goal to make fresh bread from scratch that sounds so good. Just thinking dripping with butter and jelly oh that sounds good.
You know I think I will Embrace my life a little bit more. I have been so busy with different things; I need to take a breathe; thanks for the reminder. Hugs and love to you! LeAnn

Hi Barb. Good post. Embrace the life I am living. Be kinder to myself. I like these statements. You know, I've been thinking along these lines, too, but you (and Roseanne) put into words what I've been feeling in my heart! Thanks!

As for your painting - I'm very familiar with Morgan Weistling. I love his paintings - he's so good at depicting home and hearth, and more importantly, his Christian faith. So nice to see his work on your blog!

Great blog, Barb. I love your goals and thoughts about embracing life. As I grow older I have come to realize how important it is to be gentle and kinder to ourselves. So often we treat others much better than we do ourselves.
Freshly ground wheat and homemade bread. What could be better? What a sweet thing you are doing to make aprons for your granddaughter. She will love them! Good luck getting your decorations down and put away.

Another great daybook entry, Barb! Embracing life is an excellent goal. I'm trying to do this as well, particularly the aging part. It's not easy sometimes to accept that one no longer looks as youthful, or moves about as well, etc. It seems to take me 2-3 times longer than previously to get things done. That is why I'm dreading starting the bathroom project. My hubby and I are both slowing down. Me, more so, as he is more active. I gotta get off my lazy duff and exercise more!!

Funny, you mentioned the eye doctor. I just went yesterday. Got a clean bill of health there, thankfully. I used to wear contacts, but haven't in recent years. Miss them. Another aging thing...oh well, I just tell myself that glasses hide the bags somewhat. :D

Hope we both get our decorations put away. I still have quite a bit left to do, too. And I hope your roads aren't too slippery...be careful! Hugs, Cheryl

RYC-The little lavender bunches were the once I made for my Christmas wreath. I just took them off and stuck them in a pot. The white part is cupcake papers. My problem with the WW is that because of diabetes I do a very low carb and higher fat diet. They don't give you any room to change that, with the other diet I can choose to have protein and veggies at every meal. I know it doesn't sound healthy but when you have to worry about blood sugar spiking you just can't afford to eat many carbs. Of course I can eat as much of the low carb veggies as I want, just not the starchy ones or grains and I have to keep my fruit very low also. Thanks for your comment.
