Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY - August 31, 2010

Outside my window... Well, when I started this post, it was morning, it's now, 9:32 p.m.!  My how my day has flown by!  It was a pretty today, not too cold, not too warm.  A little windy, but, we live in Idaho, where the wind always blows!  I have to say,  I am ready for some cooler weather, but, on the same hand, I have really enjoyed the summer sun!  I have so much to do, and think about, and get done before Winter. I often wish I could be Samantha Stevens (Bewitched), and just wiggle my nose to stop time.  Remember how she used to do that?

I am thinking... About how fun it has been getting my grandchildren up each morning and seeing their sleepy little faces break into a smile as they remember that "grandma's  here"... :0)  What a special opportunity it has been for me to stay with them, and help them with their first days of school.  I have to admit, I am tired, but it is so worth it!

I am thankful for... Washing machines!  Yesterday, my daughter's washing machine "bit the dust", with a load of wet laundry inside!  So, I sent my husband home last night with a load of wet laundry to put in my dryer. You don't realize how much you miss the wonderful conveniences in life, until they are not there!

From the learning rooms... Well, let's see . . . I've learned that I'm not as young as I used to be.  Keeping up with three active children has been a challenge for me.  I sometimes forget how much my daughter's do, and what it takes to run a household with children in it!

From the kitchen... Tonight, grilled chicken, pasta with zucchini, garlic and olive oil and something green, not sure what yet . . . it's been a long day :0)  (Just a side note, we didn't have anything green!)

I am wearing... Jeans and a rust and olive green plaid shirt - time to bring out the Fall colors!  (I'm now in black PJ's)

I am going... To bring Christian to football practice later this evening.  He has made it very clear that he CAN'T BE LATE!  So I am keeping a close eye on the clock.  The coach makes them do extra laps if they are late! (We were on time!)

I am reading... I'm almost done with "From Sea to Shining Sea".  I've really enjoyed reading it and would recommend it to any one who likes history.  Lewis and Clark are the main characters.

I am hoping... That the weather stays nice for Christians football game tomorrow night!  I'm so excited to see him play.   I'm not really a big sports fan, but who can resist a boy in shoulder-pads?!  GO PANTHERS!

I am hearing... Averi playing her Ipod.  She's listening to Mozart - it's beautiful, too loud, but beautiful nonetheless. (Right now, in real time, I'm hearing silence . . . ).

Around the house... Which house?  I was here (daughter's house), until about 10:00 a.m.  Then went home to do some  laundry - refer to "I'm thankful for".  While I was there, I made the bed, finished the laundry, checked the garden and shredded and froze 4 bags of zucchini.  I am now back at my daughter's house, whewwwwww!

One of my favorite things... Cuddling up with a good book before I go to sleep.  Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

A few plans for the rest of the week:

Wednesday - Christian's football game!
Thursday - Amber and James are coming home that evening.
Friday - Weigh-in.  I will keep my fingers crossed!
Saturday - Yard work, maybe get my beets pickled! (That's what I thought this morning, tonight I'm thinking . . . NAP!)
Sunday - Church.

Here is a thought I am sharing...

"A house needs a grandma in it."  ~Louisa May Alcott

I'm really good at hugs today - so gentle hugs all!

My grandkids are older now but I remember how tiring it could be when they were younger. It's still one of lifes great pleasures being grandma and esp. when you get them to yourself. Have fun. Linda

Barb, I loved your thoughts today. Our grandchildren are so adorable. I too know what wonderful parents James and Amber are. We love them so much. Amber is a true daughter to me in everyway and I thank you for sharing her with me. She has helped me in so many ways.
I have learned much from her and I know that you have a great part in the kind of wonderful woman that she is today.
Give those grandchildren of mine and yours a huge hug from me.
Love you much! LeAnn

I miss you. You are such a busy woman. I am glad all is going well with the kiddos. You could have brought the clothes here to finish. I love the quote you added. That is so true, don't we know it. Have fun and don't over do it. Give the kids hugs from Aunt Karen. Love you.
