My Vintage Treasure's - Week 2

I have always admired Andrew Wyeth's paintings.  I found this framed picture, called, "Teel's Island", at a garage sale, many years ago, along with a beautiful portfolio of his paintings, called, Four Seasons.  I'll share that next time ;0)  I bought this framed picture for $1.00, what a steal!  The photo does not do this painting justice.

I love the natural way Wyeth captures ordinary things, things we may not even take a second look at.  He has a very serious, almost sad feel about his paintings that I find very interesting.

This is what Wyeth, once said about his paintings:

"People talk to me about the mood or melancholy in my pictures.  Now, I do have this feeling that time passes - a yearning to hold something- which might strike people as sad.  And I grant you, my things aren't high key in color or joyous or Renoiresque or Frenchy - which is what a lot of people want today- the visual cocktail.  I think the right word is not "melancholy" but "thoughtful."

This is the label that was on the back of the picture -  Teel's Island - Dry Brush.  22 3/4 x 9 3/4, 1954, Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Montgomery.

I wonder if it was, Robert Montgomery, the movie star?!   I guess I will never know . . .

Hope you enjoyed my Vintage Treasure!  Go here , and  sign up on Kimmie's blog,  to show your own vintage treasures - I would love to see them!  Have a beautiful Saturday!

Hi Barb,

I really enjoyed this post...the beautiful painting was certainly a steal...lucky you! I think that Wyeth's words are as thoughtful as is his painting, too. Thanks for sharing.

You know, after seeing your comment in my post about the "star" in my sunset photo, I took a closer look. I can't believe I didn't notice the tail before! Thanks for pointing that out...it really does look like it might be a meteor!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Barb... like your site... love the music. So happy when I discover new nice things to explore from other people. I have a copy of Teels Island and Berry Picking. I just love the obvious simplicity. Thanks for sharing.

I have the same painting with the same provenance on the back. Did you ever find out who Mr. and Mrs. Robert Montgomery are? I'm just wondering if it is worth more than the $5.00 I paid for it.

Is it really a drybrush painting or just a print? What is the value?

I have one as well! I bought mine for 3.00 and it has the same on the back, too!! I'm trying to find the value of it to resell.

I also have that Teel’s Island print with the same
provenance (Mr. and Mrs. Robert Montgomery) on the back. It must be a mass-produced print, although it doesn’t say how many were made: #/#
