My Simple Woman's Daybook

Read other wonderful day books here, they are so fun to read.

FOR TODAY - May 25th, 2010

Outside my window... Finally, the sun is shining, the birds are singing and it looks like Spring.  One problem though . . . . we have a storm coming!  I guess we just need to sit back and enjoy what God gives us.

I am thinking...About what I am going to get packed for my mother today.  I am helping my mother get ready to move.  I'm excited that she is going to have a new adventure.  She is moving into a retirement community.  I think this will be a good move for her; more communication with others, more activities, she will eat better, probably sleep better, get more exercise, and just feel better in general.

I am thankful for... As always, I am so thankful for my family!  I could not have gotten through the wedding without them.  They were so much help and support for me and my husband.  I sure do love them.  I am also thankful for my sister.  She has the ability to have super-human strength!  She has been doing most of mother's moving and sorting while I have been busy with the wedding.  Loves and kisses to you Karen!

From the learning rooms...  I like to learn something new everyday, whether I like it or not.  I have learned that most valuable lessons come quietly,  they sneak up on me,  without me seeking them out.  When I am trying to learn a new lesson, it usually takes a while.

From the kitchen...I am trying so hard to stick to my diet - I did pretty good through the wedding - only up one pound.  So, from the kitchen . . . . well, it has to be something healthy and delicious. maybe chicken something or even just a vegetarian meal of some kind.

I am wearing...Blue jeans, and a pink and white striped top . . . barefoot, but planing on sandals.

I am creating...Should say, TRYING to create something pretty in my yard.  It has been so cold that we can't plant anything yet!  Oh well, some of my best gardens have been put in the first part of June, so I guess there is still hope!

I am going... To go VOTE!!  I have always felt like it is a privilege to cast my vote - for so long in our history, women did not have this opportunity, so I will vote today for all those who did not get the chance!

I am reading...Mountains of Majesty, The Story of Darby Girls' Camp, by Connie B. Otteson, a local author.  Connie is a wonderful author and writes a lot about local history.  This book is one of her best, in my opinion.   It is so amazing!  Darby,  is where I went to girls camp when I was  a young woman, so it holds some very special memories for me.  She really captured the "Spirit" of the camp.  The camp is right outside of Driggs, Idaho, very close to the beautiful Teton peaks.  In fact, one of the hikes we went on each year was the, Table Mountain  hike.  When you were on the top, you felt like you could reach out an touch the Grand Tetons.  The book is amazing!  Thanks to my beautiful sister, who gave it to me and had is signed by the author.

I am hoping... That my son and his sweet new bride find joy and happiness.  They are an adorable couple.  Many prayers and blessings go out to them.

I am hearing...Diana Krall, singing, Oh Danny Boy - it's gorgeous!  She is one of my favorite singers.

Around the house... Let's see . . . I have this big, black, silly dog that seems to shed this time of year!!!  So, I will probably vacuum and sweep . . . again.  I should make him stay outside, but he is just a big ol' Black Lab, who thinks he's a kid.  Oh, did I mention that he sheds!!!

One of my favorite things... Sitting quietly listening to nothing but the birds singing.  I love the quiet mornings after all of the traffic has gone by.  We are quite rural, but seem to have a lot of morning traffic on our road.

A few plans for the rest of the week
:

Today - help my mother pack to move.
Wednesday - my sister and I will help my mother pack to move.
Thursday - spend the day with my mother and sister doing last minute things to get her into her new apartment.
Friday - the movers come to move her things.  We will take things to her storage shed, and then go and help her get her things moved around and sorted so she can settle down for the evening.  Oh, did I tell you it was Bob's birthday that day?  We will probably do something fun for his BD if we have the energy . . . . we will do something though, he so deserves some fun!!

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

A wonderful friend sent this quote to me - I loved it, and loved the lady who said it!

"I don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully, tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with perfectly manicured fingernails.

I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp.

I want to be there with grass stains on my shoes from mowing my neighbor's lawn.

I want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbor's children.

I want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone's garden.

I want to be there with the children's sticky kisses on my cheeks and the tears of a friend on my shoulder.

I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived."

Hugs and Blessings,

It's grey and cold here. I still managed to get a walk in yesterday. I hope you mother enjoys her new home. What would we do without family. I think if we stop learning we are dead. I'm also struggling with diet, mine is complicated because of the diabetes, but I'm working on eating less. I'm hoping my plants will survive until it warms up. I got a basil at Trader Joe's and it doesn't look to good. I've never heard of Marjorie but I like how she thinks. Thanks for sharing. Have a good day packing. Linda

Hi Barb - You've been a busy girl! I know the wedding was beautiful and your kids look so happy. Congratulations to you all!

It's so hard to imagine snow in late May. We're already having summer temps in the 90's+! We skipped spring. It only lasted for about a month. It's already sweltering and humidity in the 80's and 90's. No rain. We are way under our usual quota for rain. About 9-10 inches I think. I've had to water my garden alot!

Well, friend - take a break if you can and take care of yourself. I know you're going to be so busy with your mom. I pray she'll love her new place and I know you and your sis will feel so much more secure knowing she's in a safe place and there are people there to watch over her. We' ve been going thru that with my MIL. It's a great comfort!

Awwwwwwwwwwww, give him a hug for me please.

One of our sons [& family] have 2 Black Labs and we love them. ,-) And we aren't even dog-people, as our Daughter was always allergic to dogs.

Barb, I have finally caught up on reading your blog. I looked at the awesome wedding pictures the other day and that was fun to see. I love your family and wish we could have come up.
I really love reading about what you are doing. I don't think I could really discribe my activities as well; probably because I don't get very much accomplished in my day. I have really slowed down.
Good luck with your Mother's move. I have enjoyed the moments I have been around her and your sister. Love to you! LeAnn

Sounds like a good day!
I love that quote by Sister Hinckley. She was one of the most amazing women. I like the way that she says things, they always inspire me to do better.
Have a great day. Love, Laura
