Memorial Day . . .

TAPS

Fading light dims the sight, and a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.
From afar drawing nigh - - falls the night.

Day is done, gone the sun, from the lake, from the hills, from the sky;
All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.

Then good night, peaceful night, till the light of the dawn shineth bright;
God is near, do not fear - - Friend, good night.

This Memorial Day is an excellent time to reflect, not just on the freedoms we have been given, but what it cost those who gave their lives to give us that freedom.  When we have our picnics and parties, we need to remember the line from a Billy Ray Cyrus song, “all gave some, some gave all”.

With this great gift of freedom that has been given to us by those who are unable to enjoy it, comes an awesome responsibility.  It is a responsibility to nurture and care for it.   It is a responsibility to fight for it ourselves if necessary.  We need to be sure to honor that responsibility,  to be sure younger generations know what this country is, how it was formed, what the cost of freedom is and was,  and what that freedom stands for.

The younger generations need to hear it from each of us, and, more importantly, they need to see it and hear it in our lives.

As you visit the graves of those you love . . .  not just those who served our country, remember to honor their lives in a reverent and meaningful way.  Stand quietly at their graveside and remember that person for all the good and loving things that he or she did in their life, no matter how old or young.  Then, with love and gratitude for the opportunity of knowing them . . .  keep them in your heart forever.

Blessings and Hugs,

I agree. We need to teach the rising generation and we still need to pay our respects to those who forged the way for us.
Have a great weekend!

Hi Barb,
Your Memorial Day post is absolutely beautiful and so touching. Being the child of a Military soldier I especially try and never take for granted the price paid for our freedom. My Father served his country faithfully for over 20 years.Thank you for sharing from your heart.

I have been gone for a week visiting again, and need to catch up.
have a great weekend.
Blessings, and hugs,
Sue

Hi Barb - this was such a lovely tribute to our brave fallen heroes and the ones to come. I've often wondered... Parents who've lost their sons/daughters in combat are the closest thing to understanding what our Lord God felt when He gave his only Son for our sins to give US freedom. So sad, but so beautiful. Have a great week, friend!
