Simple Woman's Daybook . . .

FOR TODAY - 4/19/10

Outside my window...
The sky is the most beautiful blue!  The birds are singing and I am thrilled to be a part of it all!

I am thinking... That I can't believe I have been married 36 years!  Today is our 36th wedding anniversary!

I am thankful for... Of course a wonderful husband who has tolerated me all these years!  When I think about our marriage, it sure does not seem like all those years have gone by.  I hear others say that it seems like a million years that they have been married~to me, it seems like it was just yesterday that we were starting our life together.

From the learning rooms...I have definitely learned a few things over the last 36 years~A few of the things I have learned along the way are:

1.  God and family should always be first in your life, no matter what.
2.  Never let an opportunity to say "I love you" go by.  You never know if you will be able to say it again.
3.  Hug tightly, and often.
4.  We cannot always chose our circumstances but we can chose our attitudes.
5.  I have learned that forgiveness allows me to have peace in my life.
6.  I've learned to count my blessings and remember to feel gratitude for even the small things every day. I've learned I'm much more at peace by focusing on my blessings rather than what I don't have.
7.  Money does not make me happy.
8.  Material luxuries are best enjoyed in small doses.
9.  I've learned to listen more and talk less. I've learned to listen fully without judgment and with more empathy.
10.  I can't wait for life to gallop in and sweep me off me feet, it's up to me to decide when and how fast my horse can run!

From the kitchen... We don't care whether or not we celebrate our anniversary dinner in a fancy restaurant,  so, I think we will have grilled steak, maybe a baked potato and a big green salad.  No dessert!

I am wearing... Jeans and a shirt with little purple flowers on it.

I am creating...  A list of names for wedding invitations - my son and his fiance, told us last night that they want to get married on May 22nd!

I am going... To start getting ready to go camping for a week.  We were going to go this week, but had a few hold-ups with the RV.  So, we are going to leave next Monday morning.

I am reading... lots of information on wedding etiquette, I've never been the mother of the groom!

I am hoping... The next 36 years is a wonderful as the first 36.

I am hearing... Birds singing, soft music playing . . . and no dog barking, I better go check on him!  Happy to report, he was just fine.

Around the house...
I have so much to do today!  Beds to change, laundry to do, floors to clean, bathrooms to clean, dusting to be done, basement to vacuum and dust . . . anything I missed?

One of my favorite things... Sitting in the sun on my patio drinking an ice cold soda!

A few plans for the rest of the week: List, lists, and more lists!

Here is video for thought I am sharing... I love this song . . . in 36 years of marriage, we have weathered many storms, we have bent, but never broken!  Enjoy~

The rain beats hard at my window
While you, so softly do sleep
And you can’t hear the cold wind blow
You are sleeping so deep

Outside it's dark, the moon hiding
By starlight only I see
The host of the night-time go riding
But you are safe here with me

So, while the world out there is sleeping
And everyone wrapped up so tight
Oh, I am here a vigil keeping
On this stormy night

I promised I always would love you
If skies would be gray or be blue
I whisper this prayer now above you
That there will always be you

Sometimes, we're just like the weather
Changing by day after day
As long as we'll be together
Storms will pass away

I said, I would guard and protect you
And keep you free from all harm
And if life should ever reject you
That love would weather each storm

So, while the world out there is sleeping
And everyone wrapped up so tight
Oh, I am here a vigil keeping
On this stormy night

I promised I always would love you
If skies would be gray or be blue
I whisper the prayer now above you
That there will always be you

Soon, I know you'll be waking,
Ask did I sleep- did I write?
And I'll just say I was making
A song... for a stormy night.

Hugs,

It's also been beautiful here for the last couple of days. Happy Anniversary. Is the wedding going to be a large one? Is it May of this year? lol Not much time to plan. I had 2 dd's and I was involved differently at each wedding. It really depends on what the bride and groom want. Have a good time on your trip. It sound nice to get away. Linda

This was such a great post, Barb! Happy Anniversary to the cute couple! Mine will be 32 years in July. It does seem like just yesterday, but the miles and miles of ups and downs of life make it seem like eons - but GOOD eons. WHat a blessing it is to have a husband who loves you more than life itself!

Congratulations to all your family on the marriage of your son! I'd love for my oldest to find the right girl, but she hasn't surfaced yet! I'm trying to pray and be patient. Keep us posted on the plans! We want pictures!!!
