Cloudy . . . with a chance of cookies!

It was cloudy and cold all day - warmer than it has been, but the high was only about 27 degrees.  As I was sitting here, feeling sorry for myself, because I really wanted to do something cozy, like curl up with a book, watch a movie, or take a nap.  But, alas, dirty sheets and towels were calling my name and I had to answer the call.  I really don't mind doing the laundry, it's a pretty satisfying job, evryone loves clean sheets and towels.  It's especially satisfying to do the laundry with my homemade laundry soap, because it smells good and it makes me feel like I have accomlished something good.

But what really sounded good, was oatmeal cookies - I had to have them!  So, I found my recipe for Old-Fashioned Oatmeal Cookies and went to work messing up the kitchen, it was worth it!  These cookies are very yummy, soft and not too sweet.  But most of all, they remind me of my grandmother's recipe.  I wish I had her recipe, but I don't think she used one - she knew the ingredients off of the top of her head, she was a marvelous cook!  Anyway, enjoy!

Old-Fashioned Oatmeal Cookies

1 cup raisins
1 cup water
3/4 cup butter
1-1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2-1/2 to 3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teasppoon cloves
2 cups oats, quick cooking or regular I use regular
1/2 cup chopped nuts - optional

In a saucepan, cook raisins in water over medium heat until plump, about 15 minutes.  Drain, reserving liquid.  Add enough water to liquid to measure 1/2 cup.  In a bowl, cream butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla.  Stir in raisin liquid.  Blend in dry ingredients, adjusting amount of flour if necessary.  Stir in raisins and oats.  Add nuts if desired.

Drop by teaspoonfuls (I use a 1-1/2 inch ice cream scoop) about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.  Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 min or until light brown.  Yield:  about 3-4 doz.

Yum...Raisin Oatmeal cookies are our favorites. Wish we could pop on over for one! Mr B will always take a Oatmeal Raisin over a Chocolate Chip. I am always looking for good, true and tried recipe. Thats why I enjoy Relief Society Cookbooks where everyone publishes their favorite recipes.
So thanks for sharing, and enjoy snuggling up in your clean crisp sheets!:)
